Anaesthetist with Expertise in Head and Neck Surgery

Job SummaryThis is a 10 Programme Activities (PA's) post including on-call duties and Supporting Professional Activities (SPA's). With mutual agreement, it can be extended to 12 PAs. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work in a busy and dynamic environment, providing anaesthetic services to a wide range of patients.
Main Responsibilities- Participate in the general on-call anaesthesia service covering both New Cross Hospital and Cannock Chase Hospital.
- Assist the lead in the development of general anaesthesia services according to those agreed in the job plan.
- Take lead in decision-making about the suitability of high-risk patients.
- Manage general anaesthetic services, ensuring they are delivered in a safe and timely manner, benefiting both patients and the organisation.
- Develop and showcase general anaesthesia modules in line with the RCoA curriculum.
- Develop local services and practice using appropriate quality improvement projects.
- Provide anaesthetic services according to those agreed in the Job Plan and take ongoing responsibility for patients under your care.
- Co-operate with other consultant anaesthetists to cover for annual, study, and professional leave.
- Deputise for absent colleagues, as far as is practicable.
- Ensure there are adequate arrangements for hospital staff involved in the care of your patients to be able to contact you when necessary.
- Actively engage in planning and delivering developments in the Anaesthesia, Perioperative, and Pain Medicine Directorate for the Trust.
- Develop and maintain special skills and interests appropriate to the agreed overall development of the necessary anaesthesia skills as agreed at job planning and appraisal (Personal Development Plan).
- CCT in anaesthesia (within 6 months of interview)
- FRCA or equivalent
- At least 6 months advanced training in Regional Anaesthesia or equivalent
- MRCP or equivalent
- ALS certification (or equivalent)
- Comprehensive experience in anaesthesia for DGH-type surgical specialties
- Comprehensive, recent experience in anaesthesia relevant to job plan advanced airway/ regional blocks
