Position Overview

Job Title: Shipbuilding Fabrication Specialist

Location: Govan and Scotstoun, on-site role

Compensation: £37,318 (potential shift allowance of 33% applicable)

Key Responsibilities:

  • Interpreting technical schematics and engineering designs
  • Marking and preparing materials for fabrication
  • Utilizing various techniques for plate preparation, including Oxy-fuel gas cutting and hand grinding, as well as conducting pressure tests, drilling, and lock fitting
  • Assembling structural components of vessels, including shells, decks, bulkheads, frames, and longitudinal elements
  • Executing fit, fair, and tack welding of steel structures using appropriate fairing aids
  • Fabricating ship components such as seating, ladders, false flooring, and panels
  • Outfitting ship elements, including the installation of hatches, watertight doors, equipment seating, and false flooring
  • Forming materials with machine tools, including rolling, flanging, and cutting machines (guillotine, cropper, mechanical saw)
  • Preparing vessels for float-off and conducting sea trials

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Trade certification, such as a formal modern apprenticeship (ability to provide documentation)
  • Proven experience and knowledge in fabrication processes
  • Strong awareness of SHE (Safety, Health, and Environment) risks
  • Comprehensive understanding of manufacturing methodologies
  • Comfortable working in confined spaces and at heights
  • Possession of safety certifications, including SHE induction, COSHH awareness, and working at height
  • Experience in a major construction or manufacturing setting

Our shipbuilding division is expanding, and we are seeking skilled Fabrication Specialists to fabricate, assemble, and install ship components, ensuring the highest quality standards for our clients. You will play a crucial role in transforming raw steel designs into fully constructed vessels, collaborating with a team of experienced and innovative shipbuilders.
