Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Appeals Practitioner to join our Complex Care team at North Central London Integrated Care Board (NCL ICB). As part of our organisational change programme, we aim to redesign our structure and working practices to better meet the needs of our population, people, system, and partners.

Main Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be responsible for the day-to-day management of the CHC appeals and retrospective team, ensuring compliance with the National Framework for CHC and FNC, as well as all relevant National legislation and local guidance. This will involve:

  • Managing all processes and clinical teams related to CHC appeals and retrospective assessments
  • Ensuring the ICB meets its statutory duties in relation to CHC appeals and retrospective assessments
  • Applying specialist knowledge and skills to ensure the team meets timeframes for retrospective and appeals processes
  • Investigating complex cases, completing assessments, and meetings as necessary
  • Providing support and guidance to the appeals and retrospective team members
  • Representing the ICB at NHSE Independent Review Panels as appropriate

Person Specification

The ideal candidate will have:

  • A first-level qualification registered with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) or qualification with the appropriate body for Allied Health Professions
  • Evidence of continuing professional development
  • Experience of NHS continuing healthcare assessments, funded nursing care assessments, and their application to health services for older people
  • A working knowledge of the guidance on NHS Continuing Healthcare and NHS Funded Nursing Care
  • Experience of completing appeals and retrospective claims, chairing Local Resolution Panels, and preparing for IRPs and ombudsman
