Job Summary:

Nexere Consulting is seeking a seasoned Democratic Services and Scrutiny Manager to lead our welcoming and diverse Democratic Services and Scrutiny Team. As a key member of our organization, you will be responsible for providing expert technical advice to officers and members, while exhibiting strong management skills and a clear vision for excellence in democratic services.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead a team of professionals in providing committee services, including licensing and planning, the mayor's office, cabinet office, statutory appeals, and member services.
  • Develop and implement strategies to enhance the council's decision-making process and improve the overall quality of democratic services.
  • Provide expert technical advice to officers and members on local government matters, including policy development and implementation.
  • Manage and coordinate the scrutiny function, ensuring that it is effective and efficient in holding the council to account.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with council members, officers, and other stakeholders to ensure effective communication and collaboration.

Requirements:

  • Proven track record of experience as a Democratic Services and Scrutiny Manager in a local authority, with a solid understanding of local government and the decision-making process.
  • Strong management skills, with the capacity to provide clear leadership and direction to the team.
  • Clear vision of what excellence in democratic services looks like, with a passion for helping the council achieve it.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment, with strong communication and interpersonal skills.
