Position Overview

We are seeking a qualified professional to enhance the research initiatives within our Department. The primary emphasis of this role is on obesity-related studies, while also providing medical assistance to advanced obesity services and contributing to the development of care pathways across the region. This position presents a remarkable opportunity to join a distinguished team in a dynamic and innovative healthcare environment.

This role offers a unique chance to acquire research experience in various facets of obesity management.

Comprehensive training will be provided in the multidisciplinary aspects of obesity care. The successful candidate will be encouraged to participate in relevant national and international conferences.

This position is particularly suited for a clinician at the ST3+ level who is interested in exploring academic research avenues and/or contemplating a career in clinical obesity management. The post holder will engage in clinical and other service activities aimed at ensuring exemplary patient care, as well as contributing to both undergraduate and postgraduate education.

Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be tasked with supporting clinical trials focused on obesity and other related studies within the department. Additionally, the role includes providing assistance in the implementation of care pathways for advanced obesity services.

Core Duties:

Clinical Responsibilities:

The Clinical Research Specialist will collaborate with colleagues to deliver services to the healthcare trust, which includes:

  • Overseeing obesity studies under the guidance of the principal investigator, with full training in essential clinical research skills provided.
  • Participating in clinical and service activities to maintain high standards of patient care.

Research responsibilities will encompass, but are not limited to:

  • Identifying and recruiting eligible participants for obesity research studies.
  • Obtaining consent and enrolling participants.
  • Providing support, follow-up, and clinical evaluations of enrolled participants and their families in accordance with study protocols.
  • Coordinating with research and development teams and collaborators.
  • Maintaining effective working relationships with the research nursing team.
  • Collecting and analyzing study data, ensuring accurate database maintenance.
  • Preparing study documentation, ethics submissions, and reports.
  • Presenting and disseminating findings through various channels, including publication in academic journals.
  • Managing clinical trials in compliance with Good Clinical Practice (GCP) standards.
  • Providing education and training to medical, nursing, and allied health staff, as well as medical students.
  • Conducting research data entry and sample collection.

Additional clinical duties will include:

  • Assisting in the development of clinical pathways for advanced obesity services.
  • Supporting the delivery of Tier 3 and Tier 4 obesity services.
  • Participating in multidisciplinary team meetings focused on obesity.
  • Opportunities may arise to gain experience in other areas of diabetes or endocrinology, depending on the interests and expertise of the candidate.

Qualifications and Skills

Essential:

  • Full GMC Registration with a license to practice.
  • Ability to function effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, facilitating confident interactions with trial participants and team members.
  • GCP certification.

Desirable:

  • Specialty qualification or higher degree in Obesity.
  • Proficiency in IT applications, including word processing and data management.
  • Expertise in statistical analysis and study design.

Research Experience:

Essential:

  • Understanding of clinical research principles and applications.

Desirable:

  • Prior experience in biomedical research involving human subjects.
  • Evidence of original research contributions.

Teaching Experience:

Essential:

  • Experience in undergraduate education and postgraduate training.

Desirable:

  • Teaching qualification.

Management Skills:

Essential:

  • Experience in educational training for medical professionals.

Desirable:

  • Management training or qualifications.
