As a Complementary Therapy Volunteer, you will play a vital role in providing short treatments to our Day Therapy patients and staff. Under the supervision and guidance of our experienced team, you will have the opportunity to develop your skills and make a real difference in the lives of others.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assess each patient/carer individually and adapt the therapy to meet their needs.
  • Provide safe and effective complementary therapy sessions to patients/carers/staff.
  • Feedback to the multidisciplinary team if you have any concerns.
  • Document all treatments and any oils used.
  • Maintain your CPD file and insurance.
  • Attend team meetings as required.

Essential Requirements:

  • A successful DBS check.
  • Hold a Level 3 Diploma in Aromatherapy or Reflexology.
  • Have your own therapy insurance and maintained CPD.
  • Have received two COVID vaccinations if operating from the hospice.

Personal Qualities:

  • Flexible and adaptable to meet the needs of the client.
  • Good communicator and listener.
  • Team worker.
  • Honest and reliable.
  • Friendly.
  • Ability to deal with sensitive and distressing situations.
  • Respect client confidentiality while being mindful of safeguarding reporting.

Learning and Development:

  • Mandatory Training (Annual): Fire Safety Awareness, Health and Safety, Safeguarding, Data Security, PREVENT training, Infection Prevention.
  • Role-specific Off-the-job training: Personal Manual Handling Training, Attending Complementary Therapy CPD/Team Days.
  • On-the-job training carried out by the manager, volunteer buddy, or volunteer co-ordinator: Induction programme, Trial Period Review.

  • All volunteers are subject to Equal Opportunities Legislation, The Data Protection Act, The Health and Safety at Work Act 1974, LOROS Safeguarding Procedures, and LOROS Confidentiality Policy.
  • All volunteers should be aware of and aim to contribute to LOROS' Vision and Mission and also strive to exhibit the Values & Behaviours at all times.
  • All volunteers will receive a handbook which outlines key information.
  • All volunteers are entitled to receive appropriate training and support to fulfil their role.
