Job Title: Trauma Advanced Clinical Practitioner

We are seeking a highly motivated and dedicated individual to join our team as a Trainee Trauma Advanced Clinical Practitioner (TACP) in the Fracture Clinic at the Leicester Royal Infirmary.

This is an exciting opportunity for a committed and enthusiastic individual to work as part of a multidisciplinary team, providing expert care to patients with complex trauma injuries.

The successful candidate will be required to undertake a 3 to 4 year Master's degree in Advanced Clinical Practice at a local University, with funding provided. Full training in the Musculoskeletal requirements of this role will be provided, delivered in partnership with Leicester Medical School and in-house training and assessment.

Main Responsibilities:
  1. Virtual Review of Referrals: Safely review patients referred from the Emergency Department, GP surgeries, or other healthcare providers, making independent decisions on plans of care.
  2. Urgent Review of Patients: Assess, examine, diagnose, and implement management of patients' care at initial presentation.
  3. Outpatient Clinic Appointments: Safely assess, examine, diagnose, and implement management of patients' care in outpatient clinic appointments.
Job Requirements:

The post holder will be undertaking an Apprentice Advanced Clinical Practitioner (ACP) training programme, working towards becoming an integral member of the medical team.

They will undertake a period of full or partial supervised practice, supporting the completion of clinical competencies relevant to the Band 6 role, to progress into a Band 7 Foundation Advanced Clinical Practitioner.

The Apprentice ACP will observe advanced practices and work fully supervised until assessed as competent, within agreed protocols and guidelines, in history taking, examination, assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of a diverse and undetermined caseload of critically or acutely ill or injured patients.

The post will have a primary location but may extend and influence across UHL, including the trauma wards and adult inpatient wards, working at all times under an appropriate level of supervision as part of the training programme.

Autonomous management of own patient load (ward-based or clinic environment).Completion of in-house AP programmes to support Band 6 training role for advanced practice.Evidence of performing minor surgical procedures.Education and Qualifications:
  • Registration on the relevant part of the register with the NMC or HCPC, with no restrictions on practice.
  • Possess a first degree in a health-related subject and/or completion of clinically based level 7 (Masters) module(s).
  • Able to meet University apprenticeship programme criteria (see attachment).
  • Postgraduate management/leadership qualification or willingness to undertake IT qualification.
  • Counselling qualification.
  • Possess or working towards Independent Non-Medical Prescribing (V300).
Experience:
  • Evidence of coaching/facilitation skills.
  • Evidence of involvement in policy and protocol development and implementation and ability to influence service changes.
  • Experience of dealing with adult and child safeguarding issues and assessing mental capacity.
  • Participation in Audit or Research projects.
  • Evidence of developing nurse or therapy-led services and clinics in collaboration or independently of medical consultants.
  • Minimum of one year's experience in a specialist or practitioner nursing post at Band 6, with knowledge and skills that can be accredited or mapped against the essential criteria of this role.
Planning and Organisation Skills:
  • Able to articulate advanced practice and professional accountability.
  • Flexibility and ability to cover 24-hour shift patterns, including weekends and Bank Holidays.
  • Ability to travel between sites.
