London, Greater London, United Kingdom Liberty Specialty Markets Full time

Position Overview:

The Senior Regulatory Reporting Accountant at Liberty Specialty Markets plays a crucial role in ensuring that financial reporting for legal entities and branches is executed with precision and within established timelines. This position emphasizes the enhancement and refinement of processes and controls, aligning with the company's policies and standards. The successful candidate will demonstrate a strong sense of accountability and ownership over assigned tasks, delivering results efficiently even under tight deadlines.

The role is focused on deliverables based in Luxembourg, with reporting responsibilities to a manager located in the same region. Occasional travel to Luxembourg may be required.

Department Overview:

Liberty Specialty Markets operates through two main legal entities that function as (re)insurers: Syndicate and Liberty Mutual Insurance Europe Limited (LMIE). These entities are regulated by Lloyd's, the UK PRA, the Luxembourg CAA, and various international regulators concerning their branch operations. The ongoing global expansion of Liberty Specialty Markets introduces continuous changes within the regulatory landscape.

We are in the process of growing our finance team in Luxembourg. In collaboration with the broader finance team in London, the Luxembourg reporting team is tasked with fulfilling a wide array of external reporting obligations and local regulatory requirements. This includes monitoring capital resource levels under various solvency frameworks, engaging with diverse stakeholders to meet detailed reporting needs, and enhancing the quality of reporting and processes. All outputs from this function must adhere to strict deadlines, necessitating a high level of commitment from involved staff, particularly during quarter-end periods.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and submit quarterly and annual regulatory reporting returns to the Commissariat aux Assurances (CAA) for the legal entity.
  • Generate quarterly internal management reporting packages for the legal entity's branch management committees.
  • Oversee and fulfill all other local reporting obligations.
  • Conduct thorough validation work, analytical reviews, and controls on data, working schedules, and results. Develop comprehensive files to support all analyses, reviews, and conclusions.
  • Proactively assess workflows for efficiency improvements and identify any issues, unexpected results, or data discrepancies.
  • Document workflows and internal control procedures meticulously.
  • Collaborate closely with other members of the Legal Entity Reporting Team to establish consistent and robust reporting processes.
  • Maintain effective relationships with various stakeholders across the organization to facilitate collaboration.
  • Apply advanced knowledge of financial principles and concepts to reporting, ensuring clear documentation of all conclusions.
  • Engage in ad-hoc projects to resolve issues comprehensively and support the implementation of enhancements to Legal Entity Reporting within Liberty Specialty Markets' Finance Change program.
  • Adhere to all relevant regulatory requirements as part of your role, demonstrating behaviors aligned with the Conduct Risk Policy, which is integral to Liberty Specialty Markets' commitment to our core values, placing customers at the heart of our operations and acting with integrity.

Required Skills and Experience:

  • Qualified accountant or actively pursuing qualification.
  • Strong understanding of Luxembourg GAAP and/or other European GAAP (French, Spanish, German, Italian, Swiss) is advantageous.
  • Familiarity with the insurance sector and Solvency I and II regulatory frameworks is beneficial.
  • Experience in financial statement reporting is a plus.
  • Knowledge of European tax reporting (direct and indirect) is an advantage.
  • Proficiency in general ledger systems.
  • Ability to interpret and apply complex regulatory concepts in a flexible, business-oriented manner.
  • Confidence in analyzing and manipulating data accurately.
  • High proficiency in the core MS Office suite, particularly Microsoft Excel.
  • Experience with Power BI/Query/Pivot or Alteryx is a plus.
  • Strong organizational skills, including effective scheduling, prioritization, and time management.
  • Exceptional attention to detail.
  • Willingness to learn and seek solutions to challenges.
  • Team-oriented with strong interpersonal skills.
  • High degree of accountability and ownership of tasks.
  • Ability to thrive in a deadline-driven environment.
  • Capability to work effectively as part of a larger finance team.
  • Service-oriented mindset in meeting business requirements.
