Job Overview

Role Objective

The primary objective of this position is to collect, evaluate, and communicate risk-related information effectively to stakeholders throughout the organization, thereby enabling informed decision-making, risk management, and adherence to regulatory standards.

Key Responsibilities
  • Creation and upkeep of diverse risk reports, encompassing credit, market, operational, and liquidity risks, along with compliance reports.
  • Gathering risk data from multiple sources, including internal databases, risk assessment models, and external market data streams.
  • Examination of risk data to uncover trends, anomalies, and significant patterns, while evaluating the consequences of risk exposures.
  • Tracking essential risk indicators and metrics to pinpoint emerging risks and evaluate the success of risk management strategies.
  • Enhancement and automation of risk reporting processes and initiatives.
Expectations for Leadership
  • Provide guidance to key stakeholders, including functional leadership and senior management, regarding functional and cross-functional impacts and alignments.
  • Assess and manage risks to support the governance and control framework.
  • Exhibit leadership and accountability in managing risks and fortifying controls related to team operations.
  • Demonstrate a thorough understanding of organizational functions to contribute to the achievement of business objectives.
  • Collaborate with various departments to stay informed about business activities and strategies.
  • Develop solutions through advanced analytical thinking, comparing and selecting complex alternatives. In-depth analysis and interpretative reasoning will be essential to identify problems and devise innovative solutions.
  • Incorporate extensive research findings into problem-solving methodologies.
  • Establish and nurture trusting relationships with internal and external stakeholders to meet key business goals, utilizing influencing and negotiation skills to secure favorable outcomes.

As an ESG Lawyer at Barclays, you will provide strategic legal counsel and support for the bank's Sustainability initiatives, as well as day-to-day assistance to various business units on transactional and operational inquiries, collaborating closely with business coverage attorneys. This role will involve facilitating interactions between the S&ESG team and external parties, including shareholders, regulators, NGOs, and industry counterparts.

To excel in this position, you should possess substantial experience as an Advisory Lawyer, with a strong legal background acquired in-house or within a demanding private practice setting. A deep understanding or significant interest in the ESG landscape is essential, along with the capability to advise on emerging and complex legal matters without established precedents. This role will be based in our Glasgow office.
