Role Summary:

Hiscox is on the lookout for a skilled Solutions Architect to enhance the Hiscox Re & ILS division, which specializes in reinsurance and third-party capital management. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a strong sense of ownership, initiative, and pride in their contributions.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assume complete responsibility for the design and implementation of modern solutions that are secure, scalable, efficient, resilient, compliant, and commercially viable. Solutions must meet immediate stakeholder needs while aligning with broader strategies and standards.
  • Collaborate with Agile delivery teams throughout the entire lifecycle of change initiatives, from gathering requirements to transitioning to business-as-usual operations.
  • Produce architecture deliverables (High-Level Designs, Medium-Level Designs, and diagrammatic artifacts) that are appropriate for the specific change, utilizing consistent templates and approved tools. While expertise in all architectural areas is not required, the candidate must take ownership of gathering, collating, and documenting necessary information.
  • Partner with the Lead Architect to advance the architecture practice, integrating architectural principles, standards, and strategies into Agile team planning and execution.
  • Work closely with business domain experts and product owners to identify problem statements and value realization opportunities, often in collaboration with business analysts.
  • Engage with a diverse range of colleagues, from technical staff to senior business leaders, adapting engagement style and terminology to suit various stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with vendors to assess their suitability and the appropriateness of their products, including active participation in reviewing Requests for Information (RFIs) and Requests for Proposals (RFPs).

Required Skills/Experience:

  • Proven knowledge of solution architecture, including its phases and the significance of architectural processes.
  • Experience in designing on-premise, cloud, and hybrid solutions, with a strong preference for Windows and Azure PaaS experience; containerization knowledge is a plus.
  • Experience in creating architecture deliverables and artifacts is essential.
  • Ability to conceptualize and logically model data, clearly representing complex ideas visually.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with Software Delivery Lifecycles and DevOps practices is advantageous.
  • Understanding of TOGAF, Zachman, Kotusev, or similar Enterprise Architecture frameworks is preferred.
  • Knowledge of Agile methodologies (Scrum) is necessary; SAFe knowledge is also beneficial.
  • Experience with tools such as Confluence, Teams, LucidChart, and Jira is preferred.
  • Leadership and mentoring experience is a plus but not mandatory.
