Role Overview:

The primary duty of the Engineering Apprentice is to develop technical skills and confidence in preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, and enhancing our operational processes and equipment. This role involves investigating and diagnosing issues, analyzing problems, and creating and implementing comprehensive solutions that address root causes. The Engineering Apprentice will rotate through various departments at Owen Mumford, performing tasks under both supervision and independently, following detailed work instructions provided in both verbal and written formats.

Key Duties:

  • Continuously ask questions to broaden knowledge and ensure complete understanding of provided work instructions and associated safety considerations.
  • Maintain a precise and current logbook documenting training completed and competencies acquired, meeting the standards set by management and external auditors.
  • Actively participate in training sessions, both internally and externally, and achieve a level of learning and performance that is exemplary.
  • Prepare and submit a report for assessment detailing insights gained from each project or work placement, meeting the satisfaction of the Technical Trainer and external auditors.
  • Keep the designated work area clean and organized at all times.
  • Complete all necessary administrative responsibilities.
  • Create detailed CAD drawings to support various business functions and manage the CAD drawing system.
  • Safeguard all company documents, materials, and equipment under personal control.
  • Adhere to company health, safety, and environmental policies at all times.
  • Engage in engineering activities during scheduled plant shutdowns, if required.
  • Conduct oneself in a professional and courteous manner, maintaining an appearance that is acceptable to customers and management.
  • Achieve agreed-upon personal objectives.
  • While the above responsibilities represent the core functions of the role, the Engineering Apprentice may be asked to undertake additional reasonable tasks as needed by the business.

Qualifications:

  • A minimum of six GCSEs at Grade C/4 or above, including mathematics, two sciences, and an engineering subject.
  • Successful completion of training assessments in mathematics and key skills.
  • Pass the college suitability assessment.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team and independently.
  • Highly self-motivated with strong communication abilities.
  • Practical experience with an engineering-related hobby.
