Role Overview:

The primary duty of the Engineering Apprentice is to develop technical skills and confidence in preventative maintenance practices, troubleshooting, and enhancing our operational processes and equipment. The apprentice will learn to investigate and diagnose failures, analyze problems, and create and implement comprehensive solutions that address root causes. The Engineering Apprentice will rotate through various departments at Owen Mumford, engaging in both supervised and independent tasks according to detailed work instructions, whether verbal or written.

Key Duties:

  • Continuously ask questions to broaden knowledge and ensure a thorough understanding of provided work instructions and associated safety considerations.
  • Maintain a precise and current logbook documenting training undertaken and competencies acquired, meeting the standards set by management and external auditors.
  • Actively participate in training sessions, both internal and external, achieving a level of learning and performance that is exemplary.
  • Prepare and submit a report for assessment that outlines learnings from each project or work placement, meeting the satisfaction of the Technical Trainer and external auditors.
  • Keep the designated work area clean and organized at all times.
  • Complete all necessary administrative responsibilities.
  • Create detailed CAD drawings to support various business functions and manage the CAD drawing system.
  • Care for and maintain all company documents, materials, and equipment under their supervision.
  • Adhere to company health and safety policies at all times.
  • Participate in engineering activities scheduled during plant shutdowns as required.
  • Conduct oneself in a professional and courteous manner, maintaining an appearance that reflects well on our customers and management.
  • Achieve agreed-upon personal objectives.
  • While the above responsibilities represent the core functions of the role, the Engineering Apprentice may be tasked with additional reasonable duties as needed by the business.

Qualifications:

  • A minimum of six GCSEs at Grade C/4 or above, including mathematics, two sciences, and an engineering subject.
  • Successful completion of training assessments in mathematics and key skills.
  • Pass a college suitability assessment.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team as well as independently.
  • Highly self-motivated with strong communication abilities.
  • Experience with hands-on engineering-related hobbies.
