Role Overview:
The primary focus of the Engineering Apprentice is to develop technical skills and confidence in preventive maintenance practices, troubleshooting, and enhancing our operational processes and equipment. This role involves learning to investigate and diagnose failures, analyze problems, and create and implement comprehensive solutions that address root causes. The Engineering Apprentice will rotate through various departments at Owen Mumford, performing tasks under both supervision and independently, following detailed work instructions provided in both verbal and written formats.
Key Duties:
- Engage in continuous questioning to broaden the apprentice's knowledge and ensure a complete understanding of the provided work instructions and associated safety considerations.
- Maintain a precise and current logbook documenting training undertaken and competencies acquired, meeting the standards set by management and external auditors.
- Actively participate in training sessions, both internally and externally, achieving a level of performance that is exemplary.
- Prepare and submit reports for assessment that detail insights gained from each project or work placement, meeting the expectations of the Technical Trainer and external auditors.
- Ensure the designated workspace is kept clean and organized at all times.
- Complete all necessary administrative responsibilities.
- Create detailed CAD drawings to support various business functions and manage the CAD drawing system.
- Safeguard all company documents, materials, and equipment under their supervision.
- Adhere to the company's Environmental, Health, and Safety policies at all times.
- Participate in engineering tasks scheduled during plant shutdowns as needed.
- Conduct oneself in a professional and courteous manner, maintaining an appearance that is acceptable to both customers and management.
- Achieve agreed-upon personal objectives.
- While the above responsibilities are central to the role, the Engineering Apprentice may be asked to undertake additional reasonable tasks as required by the business.
Qualifications for Success:
- A minimum of six GCSEs at Grade C/4 or above, including mathematics, two sciences, and an engineering subject.
- Successful completion of a training assessment in mathematics and key skills.
- Pass a college suitability evaluation.
- Ability to work effectively in a team and independently.
- Strong self-motivation.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Hands-on experience with an engineering-related hobby.
