Job Overview:
The Commonwealth of Virginia is dedicated to providing exceptional educational and training opportunities across its service regions. As an integral part of this mission, we are seeking an Accounting Specialist to join our team. This role is essential in supporting our financial operations and ensuring compliance with state regulations.

Key Responsibilities:
The Accounting Specialist will report directly to the Senior Accountant and will be tasked with the following duties:
  • Processing routine invoices for local funds and federal checks while ensuring accuracy in financial records.
  • Assisting various departments with purchase processing, including the use of purchasing charge cards in accordance with state compliance.
  • Facilitating travel reimbursements for end-users and ensuring timely payment processing for invoices.
  • Monitoring budget balances and transactions, providing support to accountants and administrators as needed.
  • Conducting inventory management by identifying, tagging, recording, and updating all college inventory records, including Equipment Trust Funds.
  • Processing manual check requests and completing additional assigned tasks.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Relevant work experience in accounting, accounts payable, procurement, and inventory management.
  • Familiarity with state accounting principles and practices.
  • Understanding of cash management principles and procedures.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a keen attention to detail.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, capable of managing multiple tasks effectively.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, Adobe, and PeopleSoft (Oracle) applications or similar software.
  • Ability to balance and reconcile financial data accurately.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience in higher education or public sector environments.
  • Familiarity with software such as Chrome River, Perceptive Content, Cardinal, and eVA.
  • Knowledge of the Commonwealth Accounting Policies and Procedures (CAPP).
