About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Operational Cyber Engineer to join our team at BAE Systems Digital Intelligence. As a key member of our Government business unit, you will play a critical role in defending the connected world and ensuring the protection of nations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design and develop secure software solutions for our customers, incorporating operational security requirements and best practices.
  • Conduct code reviews and provide constructive feedback to peers, ensuring high-quality code and adherence to industry standards.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate developed code into larger solutions, ensuring seamless integration and delivery.
  • Stay up-to-date with emerging technologies and trends, evaluating their potential impact on our customers' security and recommending appropriate adoption and rollout strategies.
  • Identify and mitigate risks associated with software development tasks, ensuring timely and budget-friendly delivery of high-quality code.
  • Develop and implement testing approaches, justifying them according to risk profiles and ensuring thorough evaluation of software solutions.
  • Model and analyze problems and solutions, designing and documenting software from logical designs.
  • Overcome development obstacles to deliver quality code within time and budget constraints, collaborating with team members to integrate developed code seamlessly into the solution.
  • Implement continuous integration and define/write test scripts and unit, integration, and system tests for developed software.
Requirements
  • Familiarity with a variety of development tools (IDEs, debuggers, source control) and principles of high-assurance development.
  • Development techniques such as unit testing, mocking, continuous integration, and test-driven development.
  • Understanding of how the specific customer domain affects the software under development and awareness of IT security as a major issue for companies and governments.
  • Intermediate/advanced understanding of how computers work (e.g., stack/heap distinction, compiled/interpreted languages).
  • Proficient with at least one 'solution' language (e.g., C++, Java, C#) and one 'utility' language (e.g., Python, JavaScript, Perl, PowerShell).
  • Able to use and configure more than one major operating system (e.g., Windows, OSX, Linux, FreeBSD) and pick up new languages easily.
