Position: Versatile Engineering Technician (Electrical Focus)
Compensation: £45,000 to £55,000
Reports To: Site Supervisor
Working Hours:
Day Shift - 7am-6pm
Morning Shift - 6am-2pm
Evening Shift - 1pm-9pm
Occasional night shifts may be required for emergency support.
Role Responsibilities:
An exciting opportunity exists for a Versatile Engineering Technician to become part of our Engineering team at our York facility.
The Versatile Engineering Technician is chiefly accountable for providing preventative, corrective, and responsive assistance to the operations team across all facets of the site’s assets and infrastructure, ensuring the reliability and efficiency of manufacturing machinery.
As a seasoned Versatile Engineering Technician, you will effectively carry out designated preventative maintenance tasks, recognize potential failures, and plan and execute corrective maintenance activities. The ability to identify engineering or operational solutions to recurring issues and implement effective resolutions is essential. Experience in Fast-Moving Consumer Goods (FMCG) is also preferred.
Essential experience and/or qualifications include:
- Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS)
- Development of Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM) schedules based on experience, existing PPMs, and breakdown data.
- Electrical maintenance expertise, including Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs)
- Mechanical maintenance proficiency
- Mechanical assembly skills
- Motor systems knowledge
- Motor control troubleshooting
- Electrical, Pneumatic, and Hydraulic fault diagnosis
- Management of external contractors/suppliers
- Collaboration with group Continuous Improvement (CI) and engineering teams to foster ongoing enhancements
- Data-driven approach
- Root cause analysis capabilities
- Support for the development of engineering technician colleagues on site
As an effective team player, you will exhibit a high level of health and safety awareness, along with exceptional attention to detail and organizational skills. Proficiency in pneumatic and hydraulic systems, mechanical power systems, and the ability to interpret and modify technical, mechanical, and electrical schematics are expected. A proactive problem-solving attitude will be crucial for success.
Due to business requirements, you may also be asked to work weekends and during unsociable hours, including night shifts.
A minimum of an NVQ Level 3 or equivalent in an engineering-related discipline, preferably mechatronics, is required, along with 5 years or more of experience in a manufacturing setting being advantageous.
