Our Team

We are seeking an enthusiastic and highly motivated Senior Pharmacy Technician to join our busy and dynamic pharmacy team at the Newham University Hospital. As a Senior Pharmacy Technician, you will work closely with the operational team within dispensary and stores, the clinical ward pharmacy team, and the wider multidisciplinary team (MDT), as well as supporting with the development of pharmacy technicians and trainees.

Main Responsibilities

  • Project Management
    • Support the Site Lead Pharmacy Technician and Lead Pharmacy Technicians in developing systems for service provision, which enhance the efficiency of the service.
  • Line Management
    • Undertake day-to-day line management of pharmacy support workers undertaking QCF/NVQ level 2 and 3 and ACPT.
  • Accuracy Checking
    • Undertake duties and responsibilities as an Accuracy Checking Pharmacy Technician (ACPT).
  • Recruitment and Selection
    • Participate in the recruitment and selection of Pharmacy staff.
  • Patient-Facing Service
    • Provide a patient-facing service to the inpatient wards, including the appropriate use and supply of medicines, obtaining medication histories for newly admitted patients, undertaking medicines reconciliation, and communicating discrepancies to relevant healthcare professionals.

Requirements

  • Qualifications
    • Level 3 Diploma in Principles and Practice for Pharmacy Technicians or equivalent.
    • Registered as a Pharmacy Technician with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC).
    • Accuracy Checking Pharmacy Technician (ACPT) qualification.
    • ILM Level 3 Leadership and Management qualification or equivalent.
  • Experience
    • Experience of working in a hospital pharmacy setting.
    • Significant experience as a pharmacy technician.
    • Medicines management experience in a ward-based setting, e.g., medication history taking, POD assessment, etc.
    • Pharmacy labelling and stock control systems.
    • Experience of pharmacy stock distribution and top-up services.
    • Education and training of staff.
    • Up-to-date knowledge of legislation relevant to pharmacy practice, e.g., controlled drugs, Health and Safety at Work.
  • Other
    • DBS - Enhanced check with a check of the barred lists required as patient-facing and may interact with adults/children.
