The Upper Gastrointestinal service within the Division of Surgery at BHRUT NHS is seeking a dedicated and proactive Nurse to take on the role of Lead Upper Gastrointestinal Clinical Nurse Specialist. Key Responsibilities

The Lead Upper GI Clinical Nurse Specialist (Lead CNS) plays a pivotal leadership role within the Trust, essential for providing a high-quality service to patients referred to the Upper Gastrointestinal service, including those diagnosed with UGI cancer. The Lead UGI CNS will function as a Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) within the Surgical Clinical Care group, with added responsibilities for the line management and professional guidance of both Upper and Lower GI Clinical Nurse Specialists.

The successful candidate will oversee and participate in the delivery of nursing services across UGI and Lower Gastrointestinal (LGI) services, supported by the Gastro Matron and Lead Cancer Nurse.

The Lead UGI CNS will exhibit strong clinical decision-making abilities and a commitment to monitoring and enhancing care standards within the Upper GI service. The postholder will influence patient care through a comprehensive approach that encompasses clinical expertise, education, and quality audits. Collaborating with the CNS team, the Lead UGI CNS will empower primary caregivers with the necessary skills and knowledge to ensure high-quality care for all patients with upper GI cancer throughout their treatment journey.

Additionally, the Lead UGI CNS will engage in the development and execution of Integrated Care Pathways and relevant protocols. This role also requires the development of skills to serve as a resource facilitator for educating and training other staff and students, ultimately ensuring optimal nursing care.
