Role Overview

Working Hours: We coordinate with mentors to determine their availability and preferences at the beginning of each term. Collaborating with schools, we assign a minimum of one hour and a maximum of three hours of mentoring sessions per week.

Sessions are conducted during the academic term only.

Compensation: This is a self-employed position. We offer £45 per session (which includes preparation, delivery, and feedback) along with additional paid training opportunities.

Location: Opportunities available at various educational institutions with potential for remote sessions.

Child Protection: At Axiom Maths, the safety of the children we work with is our utmost priority. All candidates must be prepared to undergo an Enhanced DBS check and provide two professional or academic references as part of our commitment to safer recruitment practices.

Role Responsibilities

We are looking for a Maths Mentor to implement our program at various educational institutions. As an Axiom Maths Mentor, you will conduct weekly hour-long mentoring sessions for small groups of students. Sessions can be scheduled Monday to Friday, and you will receive assignments based on your availability. You will be provided with comprehensive training and materials to facilitate impactful sessions. Key responsibilities include:

Delivery of Mentoring Sessions

  • Implement the Axiom Maths curriculum, preparing in advance using provided training resources.
  • Conduct engaging and high-quality sessions aligned with Axiom Maths' mission.
  • Encourage students to identify as mathematicians and foster a sense of belonging within a community of learners.

Reporting and Evaluation

  • Provide weekly attendance reports and feedback on educational resources.
  • Submit termly progress reports on student learning outcomes.
  • Complete a termly mentor evaluation survey.

General Responsibilities

  • Safeguard and promote the welfare of students.
  • Adhere to data protection, confidentiality, and IT policies.
  • Participate in initial and ongoing training and engage in quality assurance processes.

Candidate Qualifications

  • A strong passion for mathematics and a solid conceptual understanding of the subject.
  • Pursuing or having completed a STEM degree, or possessing equivalent experience.
  • Experience working with young individuals.
  • Alignment with the ethos of Axiom Maths.
  • Ability to travel to various educational institutions.
