About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Acute Medicine Consultant to join our team at Gateshead Health NHS Foundation Trust. As a key member of our Acute Medicine team, you will be responsible for providing senior cover for the Emergency Admission Unit and Same Day Emergency Care Unit.

Main Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be expected to work collaboratively with local managers and professional colleagues to ensure the efficient running of services. You will be responsible for observing the Trust's agreed policies and procedures, and following approved standing orders, financial instructions, and standards of conduct.

You will also be expected to participate in the GIM on-call rota and make sure that there are adequate arrangements for hospital staff involved in the care of patients and able to be contacted when on call.

Person Specification

We are looking for a candidate with the following qualifications and experience:

  • Full GMC Registration, with licence to practise, or eligible for full GMC registration.
  • Entry on the GMC Specialist Register for Acute Internal Medicine, or within 6 months of receipt of Certificate of Completion of Training at time of interview.
  • MRCP or equivalent.

Desirable Qualifications and Experience

  • Formal teaching qualification or instructor status for relevant courses (ALS, ATLS).
  • Experience in Acute Medicine clinical management including SDEC.
  • Involvement in clinical audit and quality improvement.

Skills and Knowledge

The ideal candidate will have the following skills and knowledge:

  • Meets the requirements of the GMC's Good Medical Practice.
  • Evidence of caring, holistic approach to patient care.
  • Able to demonstrate organisational skills, including time management and delegation.

  • Ability to work with and lead colleagues in a team, including in complex environments.
