Position Overview

We are seeking a meticulous and organized Accounts Assistant to become a vital part of our finance department. The successful candidate will play a key role in overseeing the company's financial transactions, ensuring precision and effectiveness in all accounting activities. A keen attention to detail, a proactive approach, and a willingness to learn are essential qualities for this role.

Key Responsibilities

Your daily tasks will vary based on the business's requirements, including but not limited to:

  • Managing the purchase ledger: maintaining records, allocating payments, reconciling supplier statements monthly, and requesting credits.
  • Matching purchase invoices to purchase orders through our customized system.
  • Maintaining the sales ledger, primarily focused on credit control due to our sales receipt-based model.
  • Ensuring compliance with relevant financial policies and procedures in all accounting activities.
  • Addressing both internal and external inquiries via phone and email.
  • Conducting daily bank feed matching and monthly reconciliations; managing petty cash and expenses.
  • Preparing supplier payments for weekly payment authorization, addressing queries, and updating cash flow spreadsheets.
  • Maintaining an updated schedule of supplier bank details.
  • Assisting in the preparation of monthly VAT returns, ensuring eligible VAT is reclaimed.
  • Overseeing the asset register.
  • Performing additional tasks to support the Financial Analyst and Head of Finance as needed.

Essential Skills

  • AAT part or fully qualified (experience may be considered in lieu of formal qualifications).
  • Familiarity with Sage or a willingness to learn cloud-based systems and new ERPs.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment while maintaining high attention to detail.
  • Strong communication skills and the capability to work collaboratively with various teams.
