Counsellor for School Placement in Liverpool

Liverpool, Liverpool, United Kingdom Place2Be Full time

About the Position

* Please note that we are currently recruiting for a start date in September 2024.

Before applying, we encourage you to review the Placement Map link provided, which outlines all the educational institutions where placements are conducted. Ensure that you can commute to at least one of the listed schools, as you will need to mention your preferences in your application. Please be aware that this does not guarantee availability, but we will strive to accommodate your selected schools.

Role Overview

As a Counsellor on Placement, you will deliver emotional and therapeutic assistance to children and adolescents aged 4-18 within Place2Be partner schools. Our organization adheres to the BACP ethical framework for best practices in Counselling and Psychotherapy, and our counsellors are committed to enhancing the mental health and well-being of the young individuals they support.

  • Place2Be offers extensive support to counsellors on placement through regular supervision and tailored training workshops, alongside a well-recognized clinical placement experience.
  • We provide a thorough induction program, and clinical supervision is conducted at the conclusion of each day.
  • You will be required to be available for at least one day per week to engage in therapeutic sessions with up to three children, providing one-on-one counselling.
  • Placements are available during term time only and are designed to last for one academic year, with opportunities for continued involvement beyond that period.
  • Participants will have the chance to attend up to six optional workshops throughout the year, recognized as continuing professional development.
  • Hours spent counselling children are acknowledged as clinical hours towards professional accreditation, recognized by BACP and UKCP.
  • This placement serves as an excellent pathway to future employment opportunities within Place2Be, with over two-thirds of our clinical staff having previously held Counsellor on Placement roles.
  • We have openings in both primary and secondary school projects nationwide.

Counting Your Hours

All clinical hours accumulated during your placement can contribute towards accreditation with professional bodies such as BACP and UKCP. If you require clinical hours for your academic program, we strongly recommend consulting with your course tutor to confirm whether child hours are accepted prior to applying. If your course does not recognize child hours but you wish to gain experience working with children and young people, you are still welcome to apply for a Place2Be placement as a secondary option.

Diversity and Inclusion

Place2Be is dedicated to promoting equal opportunities and anti-discrimination practices, actively encouraging applications from all community sectors. We are particularly interested in attracting candidates from Black, Asian, and Minority Ethnic backgrounds.

Moreover, for our clinical roles, we are especially keen to attract male candidates to reflect the diversity of the partner schools and communities we serve.

All successful candidates for clinical roles will be required to undergo an Enhanced Disclosure from the DBS/PVG.

About You

The ideal candidate will be a fully qualified Counsellor, Therapist, or Clinical Psychologist, or currently pursuing one of these qualifications at the following levels:

  • Diploma in Counselling (Level 4 or above). If you are in your first year, you should have completed a full academic year Certificate Course in Counselling or its equivalent.
  • Degree, MSc, or MA in Counselling, Counselling Psychology, or Psychotherapy - if you are in your first year, relevant experience working directly with children is required.

If you believe you possess the qualities necessary to excel in this challenging yet rewarding environment, we encourage you to consider this opportunity.
