We are looking for an Assistant Finance Business Partner to join the Financial Services to Schools Team at Leeds City Council, as well as a position within Financial Services supporting the Children and Families directorate. We have one permanent position and one temporary position available.

The Financial Services to Schools team is dedicated to supporting all maintained schools within Leeds. The role of Assistant Finance Business Partner is dynamic and multifaceted, where you will contribute to the provision of our financial services to schools. You will be responsible for cultivating and maintaining strong relationships with head teachers and business managers, assisting them in the formulation and oversight of their school budgets, and offering professional advice on financial management within the educational sector. Additionally, you will participate in training initiatives and various projects within the team.

As an Assistant Finance Business Partner in Financial Services, you will be part of a professional, enthusiastic, and supportive team committed to delivering high-quality services and fostering continuous improvement.

About You

In the role of Assistant Finance Business Partner, you will:

  • Establish credible and collaborative working relationships with officers and stakeholders.
  • Demonstrate strong analytical and communication skills to present clear financial information and options to decision-makers.
  • Support Finance Business Partners in problem-solving and effectively prioritize your workload to meet deadlines.
  • Possess a solid understanding of core finance processes and hold at least AAT part qualification or equivalent.

About the Role

We are seeking an enthusiastic and proactive individual to fill the role of Assistant Finance Business Partner within our esteemed school finance team. You will collaborate closely with a portfolio of schools, delivering high-quality financial information and guidance.

We are also in search of a temporary Assistant Finance Business Partner to assist the Children and Families directorate.

Job Description

Job Purpose: As part of the team providing comprehensive financial management services to senior officers and budget-holders, the post-holder will embody the Council's values and behaviors to help achieve our goal of being the best council in the country.

By ensuring that accurate, timely, and user-friendly financial information is central to decision-making, the Assistant Finance Business Partner plays a crucial role in maintaining the council's efficiency and enterprise.

The post-holder will assist Finance Business Partners in delivering a range of financial services, including:

  • Providing operational financial advice and management information to officers, members, and other internal stakeholders to support effective decision-making.
  • Collaborating with senior officers and budget-holders to produce annual revenue and capital budgets, budget action plans, and timely budget monitoring reports.
  • Offering financial information and analysis to support investment and disinvestment decisions.
  • Promoting effective stewardship of assets and resources.
  • Preparing year-end accounts and other financial returns.

Responsibilities for Grade:

  • Support Finance Business Partners to provide timely and accurate financial information and advice.
  • Work with budget holders to ensure accurate budget monitoring.
  • Assist in identifying long-term trends in financial parameters.
  • Matrix manage others, taking responsibility for their development and performance.

Qualifications

  • AAT part-qualified or equivalent, with substantial relevant work experience in a financial environment.
