About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Electrical Systems Engineer to join our team at Britwind Limited. As a key member of our engineering department, you will be responsible for developing and improving our small wind turbines.

The successful candidate will have a strong background in electrical design and a proven track record of testing and fault-finding in electrical systems. They will also have a clear understanding of energy management and control in domestic and small-scale renewables, including battery technologies and load management.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop new products, including power conversion equipment, wind turbine controllers, and fleet-wide monitoring systems.
  • Continuously improve safety, reliability, performance, or obsolescence elimination through re-engineering of existing components.
  • Specify engineered components, liaise with potential suppliers, and manage subcontractors.
  • Manage engineering changes, version numbering, and document control.
  • Leverage knowledge of power grid rules and connection criteria in the UK and abroad to advise and influence internally and externally.
  • Integrate wind turbines into hybrid wind/solar and storage systems, both on-grid and off-grid.
  • Ensure compliance with DNOs and all other applicable regulatory bodies.
  • Create and manage electrical installation, user, and maintenance manuals.
  • Provide technical support, both remotely and on-site, working with resellers, installers, and customers as required.
  • Work with the production team and design for manufacture to develop production methods that are robust and efficient, creating all required documentation as necessary.
  • Analyse real-world performance data for fault-finding and continuous improvement purposes.
  • Develop remote monitoring systems for design validation, performance management, and product improvement.
  • Evaluate designs and produce documentation for external certification and approvals.
  • Provide technical support for the procurement and manufacturing processes.
About You

We are looking for a highly skilled and experienced Electrical Systems Engineer who can work independently and prioritise effectively, escalating issues as appropriate. The successful candidate will have a solid understanding of electrical design, testing, and fault-finding, as well as a clear understanding of energy management and control in domestic and small-scale renewables.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in electrical design, with experience in testing and fault-finding in electrical systems. They will also have a proven track record of working in a fast-paced environment, with the ability to prioritise tasks and manage multiple projects simultaneously.

Requirements
  • Degree in electrical or electronic engineering.
  • Strong knowledge of MATLAB and Python or other similar programming languages.
  • Practical experience of system assembly, testing, and assessment.
  • Able to work independently and prioritise effectively, escalating issues as appropriate.
  • Capable of explaining complex engineering concepts to a non-technical audience.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
