About the Role

The East London NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a skilled and compassionate Registered Nurse to join our Health Facilitation Service, part of the Learning Disability Service in Bedfordshire and Luton. This dynamic role involves working with individuals who have a learning disability, providing support and facilitating access to health services when needed.

Main Responsibilities
  • Support adults with a learning disability in acute hospital settings, including inpatient, outpatient, and planned admissions.
  • Work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team to deliver high-quality, holistic healthcare and support.
  • Develop and implement projects to reduce health inequalities and improve health outcomes for people with learning disabilities.
Key Requirements
  • Knowledge of local and national health initiatives focused on the health of people with learning disabilities.
  • Sound understanding of physical health conditions affecting the learning disability population.
  • Ability to work effectively with a Lead Liaison Learning Disability Nurse and members of the wider clinical team.
Person Specification
  • Qualifications:
    • Registered Nurse (Learning Disability) or Registered General Nurse.
  • Experience:
    • Current registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Council.
    • Evidence of formal post-registration learning.
    • Clinical experience at Band 5 or equivalent.
  • Knowledge and Understanding:
    • Working knowledge of clinical risk assessment.
    • Understanding of professional and current issues in learning disabilities nursing in acute areas.
    • Understanding of the health needs of people with learning disability and the health inequalities of people with a learning disability.
    • Factual knowledge of the wider NHS and local agendas, including the learning disability work plan.
    • Factual knowledge of resource management, health and safety, clinical risk, and quality issues.
    • Working knowledge of equality and diversity.
  • Skills and Abilities:
    • Excellent communication, verbal, and written skills.
    • Ability to work across traditional boundaries.
    • Proven change management and service development ability.
    • Ability to negotiate and influence different disciplines and grades of staff.
  • Attributes and Qualities:
    • Able to work flexibly on own initiative and as part of a team.
