Position Overview

An exciting opportunity has emerged for a dedicated and passionate Nurse Specialist to become part of the Oncology Care team.

We are looking for a committed nurse who is genuinely interested in advancing their career in oncology care.

In collaboration with the Matron, Consultant, and Specialist Registrar, you will assist in coordinating a specialized team of nursing and administrative personnel to ensure the provision of exceptional oncology care.

The successful candidate will be responsible for the assessment and management of patients diagnosed with cancer, guiding them through their treatment journey. This includes delivering personalized health education programs before and after hospital discharge, helping patients manage their condition, and promoting healthier lifestyle choices by addressing identified risk factors.

Main Responsibilities

  • Conduct assessments and provide health education and support for patients referred to oncology care. Review test results and act accordingly.
  • Refer patients for additional oncology services or investigations as necessary.
  • Deliver individualized educational sessions to patients.
  • Collaborate with ward staff, departmental personnel, patients, and families regarding specific patient needs, offering psychological support and relevant resources.
  • Effectively manage a caseload both independently and as part of a team, providing coverage during absences.
  • Organize your time efficiently.
  • Assist in compiling statistical reports related to service delivery.

Education & Qualifications

Essential Criteria

  • First level nurse registered with the relevant professional body.
  • Relevant post-registration qualifications and competencies.
  • First level degree (or in progress) or evidence of degree-level study.
  • Completion of a recognized training program for practice supervisors or equivalent teaching and assessing qualification.

Desirable Criteria

  • Immediate Life Support (ILS) certification.

Experience

Essential Criteria

  • Extensive post-registration experience, including work with oncology patients.
  • Relevant experience at an appropriate professional level.
  • Experience in collaborative work across professional and organizational boundaries.
  • Up-to-date knowledge of oncology care practices.

Desirable Criteria

  • Experience with national audit databases.
  • Patient assessment skills.
