Key Responsibilities

As a Senior Psychiatric Consultant specializing in Community Child & Adolescent Eating Disorders, your role will involve providing comprehensive assessments, management, and expert consultation for complex mental health issues within a multidisciplinary framework. You will be expected to lead clinical discussions and contribute to safeguarding assessments. The role entails direct engagement with families and young individuals referred to your care, alongside participation in annual evaluations of medical responsibilities.

Maintaining relevant professional registrations, including Section 12, Approved Clinician, and Responsible Clinician status, is essential.

Job Duties

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Delivering the psychiatric services component of the CAMHS tier 3 program for individuals under 18 within the Eating Disorder CAMHS Team.
  • Collaborating with multidisciplinary staff to assess mental health states, formulate diagnoses, and monitor associated risks.
  • Conducting referral meetings and case reviews as necessary.
  • Partnering with the MDT to develop innovative treatment strategies.
  • Supporting the establishment of internal clinical pathways.
  • Providing expert consultation and support to professionals within the young person's broader network and family.

Candidate Profile

Essential Qualifications

  • MRCPsych or equivalent
  • MBBS or equivalent
  • Full GMC Registration
  • Section 12 Approved
  • Completion of relevant Specialist Training in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry or Psychiatry of Learning Disability (or within 6 months)

Experience, Skills & Knowledge

Essential

  • Section 12 Approval / Approved Clinician Status (candidates from abroad may apply for this within 3 months of commencing the role)
  • Extensive experience in psychiatric practice and psychological therapies.
  • Proven skills in assessing and treating children and adolescents with eating disorders and complex mental health challenges.
  • Ability to work collaboratively to achieve common objectives.
  • Previous experience in a child and adolescent service.
  • Experience working within a multidisciplinary team.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Safeguarding in child and adolescent mental health.
  • Prior leadership and management experience in a child and adolescent service.

Desirable

  • Formal training in management and administration
  • Participation in research and publication of original work in peer-reviewed journals.
