Child Welfare Specialist

Lancaster, Lancashire, United Kingdom Lancashire County Council Full time

Salary: £33,945-£43,421 Per annum

Type: Temporary, Full Time, 37 hours per week

Department: Child & Youth Justice Service

Note: This position is not eligible for international sponsorship.

The Lancashire Child and Youth Justice Service is dedicated to working with young individuals aged 10-18 who are either involved in or at risk of engaging in criminal activities or anti-social behavior. Our mission is to provide comprehensive support to these children, their families, victims, and the wider community, aiming to enhance safety and create opportunities for positive futures.

As a Social Worker within the Child and Youth Justice Service, you will play a crucial role in ensuring that children and their families receive the necessary support through effective assessments and interventions. We adopt a strengths-based approach to empower children, and a commitment to collaborative partnership working, especially with parents and caregivers, is essential.

Social Workers in our Operations Team will engage in community interventions, work within custodial settings, and participate in court proceedings. Those in Prevention and Diversion will focus on community-based services, providing essential support to help children and their families navigate away from the criminal justice system at the earliest opportunity.

Our service has received a positive inspection judgment, reflecting our commitment to a child-first approach that emphasizes restorative practices and innovative initiatives, including trauma-informed care. Our social workers are our greatest asset, and they will experience a diverse workload, the opportunity to make a significant impact on the lives of children and families, a supportive management framework, and an impressive training program. We encourage applications from final-year Social Work students and newly qualified practitioners, as we foster a strong culture of professional development.

Requirements: Candidates must be registered with the Social Work England or have applied for registration with the Social Care Council. For positions where non-social work qualifications are accepted, registration is not mandatory.

In return, Lancashire County Council offers a comprehensive range of benefits, which can be found on our vacancies website.

We reserve the right to close this vacancy early if we receive a sufficient number of applications.
