Role Overview

The role of the Paralegal - Health Litigation is to provide support to the Health Litigation team in the handling of clinical negligence claims. This will involve assisting with the preparation of witness statements, drafting internal reports, and considering liability and quantum issues.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assisting with the preparation of witness statements and drafting internal reports
  • Considering liability and quantum issues in relation to clinical negligence claims
  • Providing support to the Health Litigation team in the handling of clinical negligence claims
  • Assisting with the preparation of pleadings, including Defences and Counter Schedules
  • Considering whether to settle claims in conjunction with the advice of NHS Resolution and the Trust's legal services manager
Requirements
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Ability to deliver technically accurate and appropriate advice to clients
  • Ability to work to deadlines and run an effective diary system
  • Adheres to guidelines and procedures
  • Demonstrates understanding of client needs/expectations
  • Ability to interact and communicate with clients and keep them up-to-date
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Ability to influence and negotiate
  • Shows commercial awareness in understanding of the market and sector
What We Are Looking For

We are looking for a highly motivated and organized individual who is able to work effectively in a team environment. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of clinical negligence law and be able to provide support to the Health Litigation team in the handling of clinical negligence claims.

The role may also involve a long-term secondment to a client NHS Trust for several days a week in Southport, which will involve acting as the Trust's claims assistant, reporting and considering claims received and dealing generally with the Trust's clinical negligence claims in conjunction with NHS Resolution and Hill Dickinson.
