Job Description for Capability Manager

This is an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Capability Manager, where you will play a crucial role in the success of our Remote Engineering, Design and Robotics team. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for managing our dedicated team of experts based at NNL's Workington Laboratory.

Main Responsibilities
  • EHSS&Q Accountabilities: The Capability Manager will be accountable for EHSS&Q within their team, ensuring duty of care for all staff, ownership and safe operations of equipment and facilities, delivery of projects, programs and technical work, and delivery of the EHSS&Q Assurance and Improvement Plans.
  • Capability Accountabilities: The CM will be accountable for all resources within their team, including staff leadership, performance, availability, SQEP, competency review, development, technical training, progression and recruitment, as well as facilities and equipment maintenance, renewal, disposal, repair, inspection, access and utilisation.
  • Budget Control Accountabilities: The CM will support the Capability Leader for all budgetary control associated with their team and will be measured against budget control through KPIs, including staff costs, facilities and equipment costs, and customer delivery.
  • Customer Delivery Accountabilities: The CM will be accountable for all customer delivery associated with their team, including work with Account Directors and Customer Workstream Leads to engage with customers to maximise all business opportunities, technical excellence in customer delivery, and technical resolution.
  • Leadership Accountabilities: The CM will be accountable for cultural and business strategies associated with their team, including development of the team in line with business requirements, team strategy development, implementation and review, quality of science and customer delivery, and people performance, development and cultural change.
Essential Criteria
  • A directly relevant science degree or an equivalent level of relevant experience.
  • Line management experience.
  • Working to high quality standards in a highly regulated environment.
  • Ability to obtain SC level security clearance.
Desirable Criteria
  • Previous experience of working in a highly regulated environment such as Nuclear or COMAH.
  • Familiarity with Engineering design practices and procedures associated with nuclear engineering projects.
  • Experience of nuclear operations and an understanding of nuclear safety and nuclear security culture.
  • Clear Communication style.
  • Knowledge of CM&I regulations.
  • Experienced in SSOW and Work permissioning processes.
