About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Senior Manufacturing Engineer to join our team at Hitachi Rail in Newton Aycliffe, County Durham. As a key member of our manufacturing team, you will be responsible for developing engineering solutions to mobilize new projects from design into production.

Key Responsibilities
  • Technical review of design drawings and standards to mobilize new projects
  • Creation, accuracy, and maintenance of manufacturing Bill of Materials (MBOMs), routings, and SOPs
  • Creation of data for the process master
  • Layout of the work station including suitable storage
  • Design and acquisition of jigs and fixtures
  • Specification and evaluation of production tools
  • Understanding and adherence to all relevant process maps
  • Maintenance of accurate on-system information to support the day-to-day running of the business
  • Provide technical support to all production personnel to ensure that technical specifications are achieved
  • Own and keep up to date the content of the Team Member lesson plans
  • Cradle to grave responsibility for the implementation of design changes
  • Support Production & Quality departments with problem solving as required
  • Participate or lead risk assessment for all tasks and processes
  • Work analysis, method study, and labour utilization analysis including Kaizen activities and DFM/DFA
  • Evaluation and justification of capital investment projects
  • Support all internal & external audits as required
  • Identification of next generation equipment and methods
  • Promote best practice and safe working procedures
  • Support ad hoc development projects throughout the business
  • Provide industrial engineering support to other departments
  • Subject matter expert, within the Manufacturing Engineering Department, for the welding process
About You

We are looking for a strong manufacturing engineering professional with a minimum HNC qualification and experience in weld and fabrication processes within a manufacturing environment. You should have prior experience of end-to-end ownership of tasks with timely completion, strong organizational skills, and a keen eye for detail. You should also be enthusiastic, self-motivated, and results-oriented, with a commitment to working as part of a team and a willingness to learn new skills and adopt company standards.
