CAMHS Consultant Psychiatrist - Inpatient - Sussex

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Child and Adolescent Mental Health (CAMHS) Consultant Psychiatrist to join our Acute Inpatient Team in Sussex. As a key member of our multidisciplinary team, you will provide comprehensive assessments and Psychiatry-led interventions for young people with complex needs.

This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to the delivery of a safe, effective, and caring service to young people (13-18 years) admitted to our Inpatient Unit and their families/carers. You will work closely with our team to develop and implement effective treatment plans, ensuring the best possible outcomes for our patients.

The successful candidate will have a strong background in CAMHS, with experience in working with complex cases. You will be a proactive and collaborative team player, with excellent communication and interpersonal skills. A valid UK driving license is required, and you will be expected to contribute to the CAMHS Psychiatry on-call rota.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide comprehensive assessments and Psychiatry-led interventions for young people with complex needs
  • Develop and implement effective treatment plans in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team
  • Contribute to the leadership team and help develop the acute care pathway
  • Work closely with families/carers to ensure the best possible outcomes for patients
  • Participate in clinical research and service evaluation
Person Specification
  • MB BS or equivalent medical qualification
  • MRCPsych or equivalent
  • CCT in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry or equivalent
  • Qualification or higher degree in medical education, clinical research, or management
  • Fully registered with the GMC with a license to practice at the time of appointment
  • Included on the GMC Specialist Register or within six months
  • Approved clinician status or able to achieve within three months of appointment
  • Approved under S12 or able to achieve within three months of appointment
Knowledge and Skills
  • Excellent knowledge in specialty
  • Excellent clinical skills using a bio-psycho-social perspective and wide medical knowledge
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in English
  • Able to manage clinical complexity and uncertainty
  • Makes decisions based on evidence and experience, including the contribution of others
  • Able to meet duties under the Mental Health Act and Mental Capacity Act
Academic Skills and Lifelong Learning
  • Able to deliver undergraduate or postgraduate teaching and training
  • Ability to work in and lead a team
  • Demonstrate commitment to shared leadership and collaborative working to deliver improvement
  • Participated in continuous professional development
  • Participated in research or service evaluation
