About the Role

We are seeking an experienced and highly skilled pharmacist to join our Pharmacy Medicines Effectiveness (PME) team as an Advanced Pharmacist. This is an exciting opportunity for a clinical pharmacist to provide maternity cover for our Lead Pharmacist (Medicines Effectiveness) and contribute to the development of our medicines formulary and commissioning processes.

Key Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with pharmacy, clinical, finance, and commissioning colleagues to introduce safe, clinically effective, and cost-efficient medicines to our formulary and integrate them into our prescribing practice.
  • Lead the PME team in the absence of the Lead Pharmacist (Clinical Commissioning & Medicines Value) and advance clinical skills through regular commitment to our clinical pharmacy service.
  • Work with the Lead Pharmacy Technician (Medicines Effectiveness) to introduce new formulary medicines, publicize key formulary changes, and identify themes from audits of non-formulary and unlicensed prescribing.
  • Provide internal and external education and training on formulary, commissioning, and interface issues, and evaluate training provided.
  • Practice as an advanced pharmacy practitioner with special interest in at least one clinical specialty and provide a specialist clinical pharmacy service to patients in specified wards and clinical areas.
  • Line manage a junior clinical pharmacist and contribute to the development of Trust-wide guidelines and policy documents.
Person Specification

We are looking for a highly experienced pharmacist with a strong clinical background, excellent communication and leadership skills, and a proven track record of working across departmental and organisational boundaries to deliver specific targets and improve services for patients.

The ideal candidate will have a postgraduate diploma in clinical pharmacy, be a registered pharmacist with the General Pharmaceutical Council, and have experience of working in multiple sectors, including the NHS. They will also have knowledge of financial systems and structures within the NHS, current commissioning arrangements, and national medicines effectiveness programs.
