MARKETING MANAGER - Role Overview

BACKGROUND

The United Rugby Championship (URC) is rapidly emerging as a dominant force in the rugby landscape, showcasing the best from five elite rugby nations: Ireland, Italy, Scotland, Wales, and South Africa. ROLE SUMMARY

In collaboration with the Head of Marketing – Brand & Content, the Marketing Manager will oversee and implement URC's marketing initiatives across various markets. This position requires a versatile individual who excels in both creative ideation and stakeholder presentations.

The role emphasizes collaboration with stakeholders, focusing on expanding URC's fan engagement and crafting campaigns that attract new supporters. The Marketing Manager will safeguard the integrity of the URC brand, ensuring effective execution and evolution of content themes and marketing strategies.

CANDIDATE PROFILE

The ideal candidate will be a driven self-starter with a passion for content-centric marketing, brand development, and teamwork. They should possess experience in enhancing fan engagement, managing marketing initiatives, and overseeing creative processes. Strong project management capabilities, strategic thinking, and a creative flair are essential for success in this role.

KEY REQUIREMENTS

  • Minimum of 5 years of marketing experience in managing content strategies and executing campaigns.
  • Able to thrive in a fast-paced environment while juggling multiple projects.
  • Experience collaborating with diverse stakeholders, including clubs, sponsors, and broadcasters.
  • Innovative thinker with a knack for generating fresh marketing concepts.
  • Proven experience in executing ticketing campaigns, with knowledge of best practices preferred.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, capable of building lasting relationships.
  • Extensive experience in production and adept at creating briefs for marketing initiatives.
  • Demonstrated success in distributing content beyond owned platforms.
  • Knowledge of rugby is advantageous; experience in sports marketing is essential.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours, including weekends, in line with the URC calendar.

RESPONSIBILITIES

The URC aims to elevate its status as a world-class tournament with a diverse fan base and a respected brand. Under the guidance of the Head of Marketing - Brand & Content, we seek a talented and passionate marketing professional to enhance our marketing capabilities.

The Marketing Manager will be responsible for:

  • Collaborating with the Head of Marketing – Brand & Content to develop and manage marketing campaigns for key events, such as the URC Play-Offs and season launches.
  • Working with broadcasters, clubs, and sponsors to amplify marketing efforts throughout the season.
  • Maintaining daily communication with stakeholders, providing updates and marketing materials.
  • Creating and executing fan engagement initiatives around events.
  • Offering strategic insights to clubs regarding ticketing and matchday experiences.
  • Ensuring consistent brand messaging and visual identity across all marketing materials.
  • Partnering with the in-house creative team to produce engaging content for existing and new audiences.
  • Building strong relationships with clubs and unions to enhance the league's visibility.
  • Collaborating with the digital team to publish content across URC's digital platforms.
  • Overseeing stadium branding initiatives, including LED displays and programs.
  • Identifying and managing talent collaborations from conception to execution.
  • Coordinating with external agencies and freelancers to ensure timely delivery of projects.
  • Analyzing market trends and consumer behavior to uncover new opportunities.

On-the-job training will be provided. Candidates must be prepared to work extended hours during peak periods, including evenings and weekends.
