Job Overview

Leicestershire Partnership NHS Trust is seeking a skilled Mental Health Practitioner to join our Criminal Justice Liaison and Diversion Service. This exciting opportunity involves working with vulnerable individuals in police custody and court, providing timely support and assessment to ensure they receive the care they need.

The successful candidate will work collaboratively with the police, other agencies, and service users to promote independence, foster a learning culture, and enhance the autonomy of service users. They will also be responsible for clinically and professionally line managing and supervising junior team members, ensuring evidence-based practice to continually improve service quality.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide timely support and assessment to individuals with vulnerabilities in police custody or court, including mental state examination and risk assessment.
  • Work with the police on the Triage Car to facilitate an effective response to incidents involving mental health or learning disabilities, reducing unnecessary detentions under Section 136 Mental Health Act and voluntary attendances to A&E.
  • Promote independence, foster a learning culture, enhance the autonomy of service users, and ensure high-quality, compassionate, person-centred care.
  • Clinically and professionally line manage and supervise junior team members.
  • Ensure evidence-based practice to continually improve service quality.
  • Be responsible for performing comprehensive service user assessments, planning, implementing, and evaluating individualized quality care.
  • Work collaboratively and clinically within a multi-agency team, contributing to the provision and development of an effective service in line with legislative, procedural, and contractual requirements.
  • Work within different services and pathways within criminal justice, ensuring all service users gain the assessment, support, and care required.
