Senior Gastroenterologist and Nutrition Specialist

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Gastroenterologist and Nutrition Specialist to join our team at The Mid Yorkshire Teaching NHS Trust. As a key member of our medical staff, you will be responsible for delivering high-quality patient care and contributing to the development of our gastroenterology and nutrition services.
Key Responsibilities- Endoscopy Services: You will be responsible for managing endoscopy lists, including ERCP and EUS procedures, and ensuring that patients receive timely and effective care.
- MDT Team Member: As a key member of our local and regional Upper GI and Hepatobiliary cancer MDT teams, you will contribute to the development of treatment plans and ensure that patients receive comprehensive care.
- Outpatient Clinics: You will be responsible for managing outpatient clinics, including HPB, UGI 2-week wait, and General Gastroenterology clinics, and ensuring that patients receive timely and effective care.
- Inpatient Care: You will be responsible for providing inpatient care to our dedicated specialty bed base, working on a 1:8 rota and ensuring that patients receive high-quality care.
- GI Bleed On-Call Rota: You will be responsible for contributing to our GI bleed out-of-hours on-call rota, working on a 1:8 basis and ensuring that patients receive timely and effective care.
- Leadership Roles: You will be responsible for taking on leadership roles within sub-specialty areas, including formal teaching responsibilities and departmental leadership roles.
- Supervision of Junior Doctors and Nursing Staff: You will be responsible for supervising junior doctors and nursing staff, ensuring that they receive the necessary support and guidance to deliver high-quality patient care.
- Urgent and Emergency Care: You will be responsible for providing urgent and emergency care, including out-of-hours on-call duties, and ensuring that patients receive timely and effective care.
- Support from the Professional and Experienced Secretarial Team: You will have access to a professional and experienced secretarial team, providing administrative support and ensuring that you can focus on delivering high-quality patient care.
- Supporting Professional Activities: You will be expected to contribute to Supporting Professional Activities (SPAs) in accordance with the Trust Framework, with a minimum of 1.5 SPAs included in your core 10 PA timetable.
- Additional SPA or DCC Time: You may be eligible for additional SPA or DCC time, which may be commissioned in line with your skills and the changing requirements of the service.
As a Senior Gastroenterologist and Nutrition Specialist, you will also be part of the team delivering inpatient care for General Internal Medicine (GIM). You will work on a consultant of the week model of care, providing a daily consultant ward round and contributing to the development of our GIM services.
Within your job plan, you will have up to 1.5 PA of direct clinical care (DCC) for this activity. Your GIM PAs will be reviewed after two years in the post, with the likelihood of this activity being passed on as new consultants are appointed to the organization.
