Your Role

Depending on your experience and seniority, your responsibilities will include:


Conducting and overseeing Flood Risk Assessments (England) in compliance with NPPF and/or Flood Consequence Assessments (Wales) in line with TAN15.

Providing planning-related insights concerning flood risk and drainage for projects in England and Wales.

Delivering technical evaluations, leveraging extensive knowledge of hydraulic modeling and hydrological assessments.

Formulating solutions and evaluating options for flood risk mitigation.

Managing or directing the execution of high-quality projects within budget and time constraints.

Collaborating effectively with clients, design teams, and stakeholders to achieve successful project outcomes.

Preparing fee proposals and tenders, while engaging in business development activities.

Mentoring and supporting junior staff members.

Building strong working relationships with colleagues and clients, fostering collaboration within multidisciplinary teams.

The Ideal Candidate


The successful applicant will be proactive, well-organized, motivated, and adaptable, with a strong passion for water management and environmental issues, coupled with excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities.

The right individual will be a self-starter, capable of managing their own workload and that of others, balancing priorities, and demonstrating pragmatic thinking.

Qualifications

Applicants should possess a degree or equivalent qualification in geography, science, or engineering.

Chartered status (CIWEM or ICE) is highly valued and demonstrates your experience in the UK development and flood risk sector.

Therefore, candidates should ideally be chartered or nearing chartership.

Essential Attributes for the Role

Core knowledge, skills, and experience should include:

- Experience in preparing and coordinating Flood Risk Assessments and/or Flood Consequence Assessments.
- Proficiency in interpreting hydraulic model outputs or utilizing hydraulic modeling software such as Flood Modeller, TUFLOW, and HEC-RAS.
- Strong understanding of the UK planning process and policy.
- Effective technical report writing and verbal communication skills to convey complex technical issues to non-specialists.
- Experience in business development and work-winning activities.
- Quality assurance and review expertise.
- Project management skills, including contract and commercial awareness.
- Familiarity with GIS and CAD formats.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (e.g., Word/Excel).

Desirable Attributes for the Role

Desirable skills for the role include:
- Experience in preparing outline drainage strategies.
- Background in hydrological analysis using Flood Estimation Handbook methodologies.
- Mentoring capabilities.
