Your Responsibilities

Depending on your experience and seniority, your duties will include:


- Leading, coordinating, and executing Flood Risk Assessments (England) per NPPF and/or Flood Consequence Assessment (Wales) in line with TAN15.
- Offering planning-related advice regarding flood risk and drainage for projects in England and Wales.
- Delivering technical assessments while utilizing comprehensive knowledge of hydraulic modeling and hydrological evaluations.
- Developing and assessing options for flood risk mitigation strategies.
- Managing or directing the delivery of high-quality projects within budget and time constraints.
- Collaborating effectively with clients, design teams, and stakeholders to ensure successful project outcomes.
- Preparing fee proposals and tenders, and engaging in business development activities.
- Mentoring junior team members.
- Building strong working relationships with colleagues and clients, working collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams.

We are primarily looking for candidates who are comfortable working from one of our offices or remotely, supporting agile working arrangements that provide flexibility in our operations.

The Ideal Candidate


The successful applicant will be dynamic, organized, motivated, and adaptable, with a passion for water management and environmental issues, alongside strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.

The right individual will be a self-starter, capable of managing their own workload and that of others, balancing priorities, and demonstrating pragmatic thinking.

Qualifications

Applicants should possess a degree or equivalent qualification in geography, science, or engineering.

Chartered status (CIWEM or ICE) is highly valued and demonstrates experience in the UK development and flood risk sector. Therefore, candidates should ideally be chartered or nearing chartership.

Essential Skills and Experience

Core competencies should include:

- Experience in preparing and coordinating Flood Risk Assessments and/or Flood Consequence Assessments.
- Proficiency in interpreting hydraulic model outputs or using hydraulic modeling software such as Flood Modeller, TUFLOW, and HEC-RAS.
- Comprehensive knowledge of the UK planning process and policy.
- Strong technical report writing and verbal communication skills to convey complex technical matters to non-specialists.
- Proven work-winning skills and experience.
- Quality assurance and review capabilities.
- Project management skills, including contract and commercial awareness.
- Familiarity with GIS and CAD formats.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (e.g., Word/Excel).

Desirable Skills

Preferred skills for the role include:
- Experience in preparing outline drainage strategies.
- Knowledge of hydrological analysis using Flood Estimation Handbook methodologies.
- Mentoring and team leadership abilities.
