Job Overview

Position Summary
The Director of Educational Product Strategy is responsible for the comprehensive management and advancement of AQA's offerings in English, Maths, and Science. This pivotal role is essential for ensuring AQA's sustained growth and competitive edge in these academic disciplines.

Core Responsibilities:

Strategic Oversight:
Spearhead the development and execution of strategies aimed at maintaining and enhancing AQA's market presence in English, Maths, and Science.

Subject Leadership:

Serve as the primary authority for these subjects, managing the coordination, prioritization, and oversight of activities aligned with AQA's strategic goals.



Product Development and Execution:

Oversee the creation and implementation of annual and medium-term product roadmaps, ensuring a balance between quality, customer requirements, commercial viability, and stakeholder interests.



Representation:

Act as the chief representative for English, Maths, and Science both within AQA and in external engagements, focusing on achieving customer acquisition and retention objectives.



Strategic Initiatives:
Identify and outline strategic actions necessary for achieving AQA's objectives and lead their execution.

Lifecycle Management:
The incumbent will manage the assigned portfolio throughout its entire lifecycle.

Team Leadership:

Establish SMART objectives for your team, providing ongoing guidance and support, mentoring, coaching, and fostering a collaborative and innovative environment.

Ensure that your team performs at a high level and meets its objectives in alignment with AQA's broader strategy.



  • This leadership position, reporting directly to the Head of Product Management, is critical in maintaining AQA's reputation as a leader in educational assessment services.

Key Qualifications:

Subject Knowledge:
This role demands extensive expertise in English, Maths, and Science, acquired through professional experience or teaching roles.

Strategic Direction:
Provide strategic guidance within AQA and represent these subjects to external stakeholders.

Business Process Oversight:
Manage the business case process and oversee related budgets to ensure cost-effectiveness.

Profitability Focus:
Aim to maximize the profitability of these subject areas through strategic planning and oversight.

Key Activities:
Customer Engagement
Lead initiatives to improve product quality, customer experience, and stakeholder satisfaction through continuous enhancement.
Represent AQA at external functions and develop commercial strategies for product enhancement.
Guide the team to align delivery with AQA's strategic priorities.
Create customer value propositions based on in-depth customer insights.
Participate in planning and quality assurance of customer engagement initiatives and collaborative projects.

Financial Oversight
Optimize product profitability while balancing financial objectives with broader interests.
Serve as the product leader within AQA, establishing and communicating priorities.
Update and manage financial targets in collaboration with the Finance department.
Provide advice on pricing strategies and develop business cases for new initiatives.

Product and Internal Operations
Develop and maintain product plans, ensuring timely and budget-compliant delivery.
Analyze data for informed decision-making and facilitate cross-departmental collaboration.
Regularly assess product strategy and plans for ongoing relevance and effectiveness.

Ensure adherence to all AQA policies and legislative requirements, including but not limited to health and safety, equal opportunities, and information security management.


Team Development:
Lead and nurture team members, promoting and exemplifying a high-performance culture.
Provide constructive feedback, coaching, and development aligned with business objectives.
Ensure compliance with AQA policies and demonstrate adaptability to evolving business needs.

Technology Utilization:
Utilize digital tools for effective communication and content management.

Regulatory and External Relations:
Apply business analytics for insight-driven policy development and stakeholder engagement.
Oversee regulatory compliance aspects of product management.

Success Criteria:

Knowledge Base:
Expertise in product management and marketing, with strong financial and commercial acumen.

Educational Background:
Degree-level education or equivalent experience.

Skill Set:
Leadership, communication, influencing, negotiation, creative thinking, analytical abilities, problem-solving, prioritization, strategic planning, and interpersonal skills.

Professional Experience:
Experience in educational or commercial product management, operating in a complex matrix environment, with a focus on people management.
