We are currently seeking a dedicated Environmental Hydraulic Modeller to enhance our Catchment and River Restoration initiatives. This role will involve engaging in diverse projects, from Natural Flood Management assessments to River Restoration efforts.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Analyzing datasets, GIS, and modeling results.
  • Delivering expert advice on River and Catchment Restoration to both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Leading Environmental Hydraulic modeling (1D and 2D), specializing in Hec-RAS and/or TUFLOW.
  • Collaborating within a multi-disciplinary project team to guide design processes.
  • Drafting clear and coherent reports while reviewing documentation.
  • Conducting fieldwork focused on geomorphology, River Restoration, and Natural Flood Management.
  • Providing mentorship and support to junior colleagues.
  • Overseeing projects and teams, ensuring timely and quality delivery.
  • Representing the company in client meetings and project workshops, engaging with a diverse range of stakeholders.
  • Leading and assisting in tender submissions for new commissions.

Location:

This position offers flexibility in location, with the possibility of working from various offices, supporting agile working practices.

Qualifications and Experience:

Essential Competencies:

We are looking for organized, motivated, and adaptable individuals who can work independently or collaboratively. Candidates should have substantial environmental experience and a keen interest in water and ecological matters. Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities are crucial, along with effective communication skills, both written and verbal.

Applicants should possess a comprehensive understanding of various Natural Flood Management and river restoration strategies, as well as the connections between fluvial geomorphology, hydraulics, hydrology, and ecology. We seek a dynamic individual who is an effective communicator and a team player, capable of contributing significantly to a multi-disciplinary team. Willingness to travel throughout the UK and Ireland, including occasional overnight stays, is expected.

A degree or equivalent qualification in geography or a related science field, along with proven professional experience, is required. Chartered status (ICE, CIWEM, CGeog) is highly valued at JBA and among our clients, so a commitment to pursuing chartered status is encouraged.

Essential Skills:

  • Understanding of Nature-Based Solutions for enhancing catchment resilience.
  • Experience in a multi-disciplinary design team, with the ability to articulate environmental benefits to a broad audience.
  • Fieldwork experience.
  • Proficiency in at least one 1D hydraulic modeling software (e.g., Flood Modeller) or a 2D hydraulic modeling software (e.g., HEC-RAS, TUFLOW).
  • Solid understanding of UK catchment hydrology.
  • Project management skills and client relationship building.
  • Aptitude for mentoring and supporting junior staff.
  • Experience with Geographical Information Systems (GIS).
  • Report writing and quality assurance capabilities (Excel, Word).
  • A valid UK Driving license.
  • Experience in tender preparation.

Desirable Skills:

  • Knowledge of sediment transport, erosion, and deposition processes.
  • Experience in contract management.
