Cognitive Behavioral Therapist

Scunthorpe, North Lincolnshire, United Kingdom Rotherham Doncaster and South Humber NHSFT Full time

Position Overview

Are you dedicated to providing psychological support to young adults? Do you aspire to contribute to the establishment of an innovative service?

An exceptional opportunity has emerged for a full-time band 7-8a Clinical Psychologist or Cognitive Behavioral Therapist within a pioneering service aimed at young individuals aged 14-35 who are identified as being at elevated risk of developing psychosis. You will collaborate closely with a consultant psychologist to shape this new initiative. The service adopts a holistic approach to assist young people in preventing or postponing the onset of psychosis while enhancing their overall quality of life. Our guiding principles emphasize trauma-informed care, strengths-based methodologies, family involvement, and a focus on recovery.

This position is available for candidates seeking to work at band 7, as well as those interested in a developmental pathway towards band 8a, where the latter role entails providing clinical leadership for the service with guidance from the acting consultant psychologist.

The successful candidate will enjoy a significant level of autonomy, allowing for flexible management of their workload based on client needs. Responsibilities will include delivering specialized CBT and family interventions, along with other psychological therapies as clinically appropriate (e.g., EMDR, CFT, ACT). Training opportunities will be available to enhance skills in various psychological interventions, including family therapy and CBT for psychosis.

Key Responsibilities

The service will collaborate closely with the Early Intervention in Psychosis (EIP) program. You will work in tandem with another psychological practitioner and a mental health nurse, receiving supervision from a Consultant Psychologist or Cognitive Behavioral Therapist. You will serve as the primary professional for the majority of clients on your caseload, with additional support from a mental health nurse for those presenting with more complex needs.

You will be integrated into a broader network of psychological professionals, including Clinical and Counselling Psychologists, Cognitive Behavioral Therapists, Mental Health Wellbeing Practitioners, and Assistant Psychologists. Our team maintains strong connections with local CBT training programs. We currently engage in a blend of home and office-based (hybrid) work, tailored to the service's requirements. You will be expected to conduct appointments in clients' homes and clinics, as well as participate in team meetings. The role may also encompass audit, service evaluation, and research activities.

We welcome applications from qualified cognitive behavioral therapists or psychologists with relevant experience in Adult Mental Health, who are enthusiastic about early intervention and supporting young individuals facing psychosis.

The postholder will assume clinical leadership responsibilities for the service, which will include supervision, governance, triaging referrals, and coordinating with other services.
