About the Role:

Avara Foods, a leading food business, is seeking a highly competent and motivated Lead Occupational Health Technician to join our team at our Telford site.

This is an office-based role, working 37.5 hours a week, Monday to Friday 08:00-16:30. Flexibility and twilight/night shift work is required to support the teams across site, with a shift allowance (T&C's apply). You will be required to travel to other Avara locations, which may involve overnight stays.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop and implement an annual health surveillance plan, working with Occupational Health Technicians within the hub, to ensure that screening and surveillance is planned, delivered, and reported on.
  • Develop an understanding of job roles and equipment within Avara to implement appropriate routine health surveillance testing in line with legislation and organisational requirements.
  • Ensure fitness for work health assessments for new starters are conducted effectively and act as an escalation point in regards to any potential risks and review of health adjustments needed.
  • Manage all aspects of data, including ensuring records are up to date, monitoring and reporting on compliance/KPIs on a monthly basis, and ensuring the security of data across the hub.
  • Train the OH Technician team to deliver the required suite of assessments and monitor ongoing competency.
  • Carry out the first-level interpretation of any flagged audios or spiros.
  • Liaise with the HR Team where escalation to an OH Physician is required, for a referral to be completed.
  • Ensure the effectiveness of equipment by arranging annual calibration of all equipment.
  • Signpost and support colleagues in accessing company benefits that support their health and welfare.
Requirements:
  • Valid UK Driving Licence.
  • Previous experience of working with/leading an Occupational Health screening team.
  • Effective communicator with strong listening skills.
  • Able to delegate effectively across the team.
  • Ability to influence and engage others.
  • Good organisation, planning, and time management skills.
  • Able to present data through the use of systems/Excel.
