About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Research Engineer – Systems Expert to join our Advanced Production Systems (APS) Team at The MTC.

The successful candidate will be responsible for leading technical projects and systems engineering activities across various technology departments, industrial sectors, and customers.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide technical leadership and guidance to ensure projects meet or exceed customer requirements, budget, and timescales.
  • Deliver technical projects to support UK-based customers with industrialisation and scale-up of manufacturing plants and products, primarily focusing on Aerospace and Defence sectors.
  • Develop and implement Systems Engineering Process Development, Quality improvements, and provide technical governance to support engineers in their development.
  • Identify new technology capabilities and propose project ideas for internal, industrial, or Collaborative Research & Development funding streams.
Requirements
  • Excellent written and verbal technical communication skills, with experience in partner and supplier liaison, coaching, and mentoring.
  • Creative problem-solving abilities, analytical approach to implementation, product development, and design experience.
  • Degree in an engineering discipline, with a strong team player mentality and adaptability to project needs.
Desirable Skills and Qualifications
  • Experience with Systems Engineering approaches, particularly in Defence or Aerospace projects.
  • Leading Systems Engineering activities on large-scale complex projects, familiarity with manufacturing processes, and BS ISO/IEC/IEEE 15288:2023.
  • Experience in functional safety, system prototypes, FMEAs, and a wide range of engineering disciplines.
