About the Role

As a Prison Officer with Serco, you will play a vital role in ensuring the health, safety, and wellbeing of prisoners, staff, and visitors in our prisons. You will be at the forefront of reducing reoffending rates amongst prisoners and contributing to a calmer and more rehabilitative prison environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Supervise prisoners in all aspects of prison wing activity, promoting a positive and structured environment.
  • Oversee work and education programs, encouraging prisoners to participate and develop valuable skills.
  • Operational matters such as prisoner headcounts, prison cell searching, security, and administrative processes.
  • Manage prisoners who are at risk of self-harm, providing support and guidance.

Requirements
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and make sound decisions under pressure.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills, with a focus on building positive relationships with prisoners and colleagues.
  • Ability to pass a fitness test, including a bleep test, agility test, shield hold test, and grip test.
  • 5 years of employment and education history, subject to security clearance checks.
Training and Development

You will undergo a 8-week Initial Training Course (ITC) at the prison, which includes classroom-based training and shadowing. You will also complete a Diploma in Custodial Care and First Aid, as well as Control and Restraint training.
