Working at Fennies is about loving what you do and having the passion to be the best at it

Fennies has been excelling in the early years since 1992, and we're opening new nurseries every year. We don't acquire existing nurseries, so each of our settings is Fennies through and through, from our exceptional culture to our bespoke rooms. From day one, you'll be supported by our tailored induction, and you'll be given every opportunity to grow and develop in your career with guidance from the Fennies Academy.

Your Role

As a Culinary Support Assistant, you will assist the Nursery Chef in preparing and cooking nutritious and balanced meals and desserts for all children in the nursery, making necessary adjustments based on individual dietary needs. Additionally, you will help prepare meals for the in-house lunch service for staff. You will adhere to the weekly menus provided by the Head Chef and take daily food samples for safety and good practice. You will work collaboratively as part of a team, led by the Nursery Chef, with responsibilities delegated fairly. You will also conduct essential checks to ensure the kitchen operates efficiently and reliably each day.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Preparing well-balanced and nutritious meals (including purees) according to agreed menu plans for all children in our nurseries.
  • Assisting with the daily cleaning schedule, including mopping, sweeping, wiping surfaces, and cleaning kitchen equipment, crockery, and cutlery.
  • Maintaining accurate paperwork and records for the safety of all food consumers.
  • Taking inventory of dry and frozen foods before placing orders and communicating this with the Head Chef.
  • Monitoring food wastage and suggesting menu changes if a meal is not well-received.

Required Knowledge:

  • Understanding how to cater for children's dietary requirements by following current legislation regarding nutrition and your knowledge of child catering.
  • Familiarity with the standards required to achieve the highest rating from the local council's Environmental Health Department.
  • Knowledge of implementing relevant policies and procedures.
  • A Level 2 Food Hygiene certificate is required.
  • Completion of Allergen Training is necessary.

Our Commitment:

  • We prioritize effective onboarding with a paid induction to ensure you feel confident and supported from the start of your career at Fennies.
  • We encourage open communication within our teams through regular meetings to provide feedback and mentorship.
  • We schedule ongoing training to keep your knowledge current.
  • We offer career progression opportunities and the chance to develop your skills by catering for various audiences, including parents and staff at events.
  • We promote team-building opportunities through events that showcase your talents.
  • We prioritize your well-being by organizing monthly events that support your personal growth.

Benefits:

  • Competitive salaries that match or exceed industry standards, along with a pension scheme and staff discounts.
  • Well-being benefits, including treats and events.
  • DBS checks and uniforms provided at no cost.
  • Opportunities for overtime during special events.
  • A choice of three free lunch options daily in our bespoke staff rooms.
