We don't acquire existing nurseries, so each of our settings is Fennies through and through, from our exceptional culture to our bespoke rooms. Your Role
As a Culinary Support Assistant, you will assist the Nursery Chef in preparing and cooking nutritious and balanced meals and desserts for all children in the nursery, making necessary adjustments based on individual dietary needs. Additionally, you will help prepare meals for Fennies Fresh Café, our in-house lunch service for staff. You will adhere to the weekly menus provided by the Head Chef and take daily food samples for safety and quality assurance. You will work collaboratively within a team, guided by the Nursery Chef, with tasks delegated fairly. You will also conduct essential checks to ensure the kitchen operates efficiently and reliably each day.
Key Responsibilities:
- Preparing well-balanced and nutritious meals (including purees) according to agreed menu plans for all children attending our nurseries.
- Assisting with the daily cleaning schedule, including mopping, sweeping, wiping surfaces, and cleaning kitchen equipment, crockery, and cutlery.
- Maintaining accurate paperwork and records for future reference to ensure the safety of all food consumers.
- Taking inventory of all dry and frozen foods prior to ordering and communicating this with the Head Chef.
- Monitoring food wastage across nurseries and suggesting menu adjustments if certain meals are less popular.
Required Knowledge:
- Understanding how to cater for children's dietary requirements by adhering to current legislation regarding nutrition and your knowledge of catering for children.
- Familiarity with the standards required to achieve the highest rating from the local council's Environmental Health Department.
- Knowledge of implementing all relevant policies and procedures.
- A Level 2 Food Hygiene certificate is essential.
- Completion of Allergen Training is required.
