Summer Camp Lifeguard Position
Working Hours: 09:00 - 16:30
Compensation: £529.53 per week - salary may vary based on age, experience, and qualifications.
Accountable to: Senior Camp Team, Area Manager, and Central Office. Barracudas is dedicated to ensuring the safety and well-being of children and young individuals and expects all personnel to uphold this commitment.
LIFEGUARD RESPONSIBILITIES
- Adhere to the policies and procedures detailed in the Swimming Pool documentation.
- Conduct daily assessments of water quality, signage, and safety equipment.
- Provide safety briefings to swimmers at the beginning of each session and ensure compliance.
- Guide non-lifeguarding staff in their responsibilities during swimming activities.
- Oversee and administer swimming assessments at the camp.
- Maintain accurate daily and weekly records of swim assessments and safety equipment.
- Ensure adequate staffing levels of lifeguards in relation to the number of bathers.
- Quickly identify emergencies and respond appropriately.
- Secure the pool area when not in use.
- Proactively anticipate issues to prevent accidents.
- Keep the pool area clean and ensure all equipment is stored properly.
QUALIFICATIONS
Must possess a valid NPLQ certification from RLSS, STA, or HABC and provide the original certificate as proof of training.
- Successfully complete a Barracudas Lifeguard Competency Assessment (further details to follow).
- Be alert, self-disciplined, physically fit, and possess good hearing and vision.
- Must be at least 18 years old by the start of the contract.
- Eligible to work in the UK.
- Provide satisfactory professional or academic references, ideally one from a previous lifeguarding position.
- Obtain an enhanced DBS check through Barracudas or have an existing enhanced DBS on the Update Service.
- Attend a Virtual Assessment Event if new to Barracudas.
- Complete annual online training.
- Participate in an Induction Training Day prior to the camp opening.
During the Induction Training Day, Lifeguards will review the Swimming Pool documentation to familiarize themselves with their responsibilities and the pool's operational guidelines. It is mandatory to read this documentation before commencing any lifeguarding duties.
ADDITIONAL DUTIES
- Ensure compliance with all Health and Safety regulations by diligently following guidelines and demonstrating a proactive approach to safety.
- Organize and deliver activities suitable for the children in your care, within the scope of your qualifications and expertise.
- Encourage children to engage in new activities and ensure adherence to the activity schedule.
- Supervise children to ensure safe behavior, maintain awareness of their whereabouts, and communicate daily about expected conduct.
- Follow all camp procedures, including registration and collection protocols, while supporting colleagues in maintaining Health and Safety standards.
- Serve as a positive role model by promoting healthy lifestyles and good hygiene practices.
- Report any concerns regarding Child Protection to the Management Team or designated personnel.
- Make reasonable accommodations for children with additional needs or medical conditions.
- Prioritize the welfare and happiness of the children.
- Ensure the safe use of equipment during sessions.
- This list is not exhaustive, and you may be required to perform various tasks as necessary to meet the organization's objectives.
