Position Overview

The Senior Merchandise Operations Manager role is an exceptional opportunity for those looking to elevate their leadership capabilities while guiding a dedicated management team and department. Your Role

Our mission is driven by our enthusiasm for food, as we collectively serve and assist every customer.

In this position, you will operate within one of our most dynamic and intricate stores, reporting directly to the Store Manager and overseeing a team of managers. The environment is fast-paced, presenting daily challenges. While you may not always have immediate solutions, your ability to address short-term issues and implement medium-term improvements will empower your team to maintain high performance.

General Merchandise encompasses a variety of categories including home goods, fashion, beauty, and entertainment, along with our esteemed TU and Habitat brands. Your leadership is crucial in transforming our stores into vibrant shopping destinations that offer more than just food.

Key Responsibilities

In this role, you will define the strategic direction for your area over the next 1-3 months.

  • You will lead through effective communication, clearly conveying performance metrics and inspiring enhancements for the present and future.
  • You will develop expertise in operations and serve as a role model for your team.
  • You will confidently make timely decisions and feel empowered to manage your area of the store, including stepping in for the Store Manager when necessary.
About You

Currently, you may be managing a smaller supermarket or convenience store, or you might already be in a leadership role. Perhaps you are seeking a new challenge after a career break or transitioning from another large retail environment or sector. Regardless of your current position, you have demonstrated your ability to make a significant impact and enjoy being part of a team.

Career Progression

As a member of Sainsbury's management teams, you will receive ongoing support and opportunities to excel. Upon joining, you will undergo a thorough induction and orientation, along with a tailored training plan developed in collaboration with your manager. They will guide and mentor you to achieve outstanding performance while allowing ample time for your development.

As a Lead Manager, you may advance to a Deputy Store Manager or Store Manager position. You will also be well-positioned for leadership opportunities within our head office or across the Sainsbury's family, including Habitat, Tu, Argos, Sainsbury's Bank, and Nectar 360.
