Position Overview

RINA is seeking a Team Manager Power System Studies to enhance its operations within the Power Division.

Role Objective

The Team Manager Power System Studies will be responsible for directing and overseeing a group of engineering professionals specializing in power systems analysis. This role emphasizes delivering high-quality projects, optimizing resource distribution, and fostering interdepartmental collaboration. Additionally, the manager will contribute to business growth, uphold financial objectives, and assist in recruitment and training initiatives to fulfill organizational aspirations.

This role offers a hybrid working arrangement.

Key Responsibilities

Team Leadership
  • Serve as a technical and commercial exemplar for the team.
  • Provide managerial oversight for engineering personnel across various locations.
  • Manage administrative tasks such as timesheets, leave requests, smart-working approvals, performance reviews, training, and salary assessments.
  • Collaborate with departmental heads to ensure efficient resource management and project execution.
  • Assist the business unit in recruitment and training efforts.
  • Support business development and sales initiatives to meet financial goals.
Project & Quality Oversight:
  • Guarantee the delivery of consistent, high-quality project outputs.
  • Oversee project management within the team and assist the business unit with backlog management and timely billing.
Technical Expertise
  • In-depth knowledge of power system steady-state and dynamic performance.
  • Proficient in conducting generation compliance and power quality assessments.
  • Experience with circuit breaker switching transients and insulation coordination evaluations.
  • Skilled in protection coordination and Arc Flash assessments.
  • Understanding of techno-economic evaluations, basic system design, and equipment specifications.
  • Familiarity with HVDC systems and sub-synchronous oscillations/interactions.
  • Competence in automation and scripting for power system analysis applications.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in model development using software such as PSCAD/EMTDC, DIgSILENT PowerFactory, and PSSE.
  • Knowledge of grid connection processes for generation and load connections to transmission and distribution networks.
  • Technical due diligence experience in power projects.
  • Design and specification experience for substation equipment.
Software Proficiency

Proficient in at least three of the following software tools: PSCAD/EMTDC, DIgSILENT PowerFactory, PSSE, MATLAB/Simulink, ETAP, ERACS.

Educational Background
  • Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline.
  • At least 10 years of professional experience.
  • Experience with the grid integration of renewable energy sources and associated grid regulations.
  • Experience collaborating with grid system operators, power producers, developers, EPC contractors, OEMs, and power systems consulting firms.
  • Proven expertise in steady-state, RMS, and EMT-type power system analysis using industry-standard simulation tools.
  • Knowledge of steady-state, RMS, and EMT models for key power system components, including battery energy storage systems (BESS), solar PV, synchronous generators, HVDC interconnectors, wind turbine generators, transformers, transmission lines, cables, shunt reactors, and capacitors.
Interpersonal Skills
  • Ability to convey complex concepts in a straightforward and clear manner.
  • Demonstrated leadership capabilities in a team setting and ability to mentor junior staff.
  • Self-motivated and recognized as a subject matter expert.
  • Excellent English communication skills (both written and verbal) with the ability to establish credibility with senior stakeholders.
  • Able to assist business and team leaders by preparing high-quality bids and proposals (RFPs), providing customer support, and reviewing power systems models and reports.
