Position Overview

The Lead Governance and Compliance Strategist plays a crucial role in overseeing governance, policy, and compliance management across The Climate Group's global operations to enhance our mission and amplify our impact. Key responsibilities include:

Support for Leadership

  • Direct the comprehensive agenda for the Board throughout the year.
  • Assist the Chair in their governance responsibilities and related activities.
  • Oversee the induction and onboarding process for Trustees.
  • Coordinate venue logistics, prepare documentation, and manage the delivery of Board reports and briefing materials from the Executive Management team.
  • Participate in meetings to record minutes and ensure follow-up actions are executed.

Governance Management

  • Collaborate with Trustees and senior management to lead all governance processes, ensuring alignment with regulatory standards, organizational policies, and best practices.
  • Engage with regional teams to promote transparency in global governance and compliance obligations.
  • Oversee the evaluation of governance documents and processes, staying informed on new developments to guide The Climate Group towards best practices.
  • Manage and coordinate significant governance and compliance reviews and updates.

Compliance and Assurance

  • Work with teams and regional offices to advance and implement The Climate Group's policy framework, focusing on policy development, review, training, and compliance.
  • Deliver the compliance and assurance framework to ensure adherence to relevant laws, organizational standards, and exemplary corporate governance.
  • Continuously seek innovative methods for improvement based on the latest trends and research in compliance and best practices.

Candidate Profile

The ideal candidate will possess a robust background in corporate governance within the public or charity sector, experience in assurance activities, and proficiency in drafting and implementing policies. You should be highly organized, with exceptional written and verbal communication skills, a keen eye for detail, and the ability to manage a diverse workload while engaging confidently with senior stakeholders.

As a successful candidate, you will thrive in collaborative environments, adeptly plan and prioritize tasks, and be accustomed to fast-paced settings with predictable workload surges. A strong interest in The Climate Group's mission is essential, along with the capacity to understand the broader context of how this role contributes to the organization's effective operation.

Essential Skills and Competencies

  • Experience in governance, charitable, and corporate secretarial matters, including minute preparation and key document management.
  • Comprehensive understanding of regulatory and statutory requirements, with the ability to ensure organizational compliance, assess risks, and resolve issues.
  • Proven ability to draft clear and concise policies and documents for senior stakeholders.
  • Strong attention to detail and analytical skills, with a demonstrated capacity to interpret complex documents and policies accurately and efficiently.
  • Team-oriented with excellent organizational and time management abilities.
